CMX cable has a UV-resistant jacket for exposed runs along walls and in conduit. Direct burial cable adds a gel-filled or waterproof core so water that gets into the jacket can't travel down the cable; some are also dual-shielded. Aerial cable has a steel messenger wire molded in for pole-to-pole and building-to-building spans.
Most outdoor cable is not plenum or riser rated, so bring it to a surge protector and transition to indoor cable within 50 feet of where it enters the building, as the NEC requires. Shielded outdoor cable also needs a grounded shielded termination.
