This is the standard 10 Gigabit multimode patch cord: LC on both ends, laser-optimized OM3 fiber, duplex, in lengths from a 1 m rack jumper to a 100 m run. OM3 carries 10GBASE-SR to 300 m, which covers nearly every link inside a building, and it does it with the cheap, low-power SR transceivers that make multimode the default for data center rows and enterprise closets. LC is the connector on every SFP+ and on the panels and cassettes that face them, so this is the cord for a switch to a panel, a panel to a panel, or a transceiver to a transceiver on a 50 µm plant.

It's a duplex zipcord, two 50/125 µm fibers in a 1.8 × 3.7 mm low-smoke zero-halogen jacket that's also OFNR riser rated, so it can run between floors as well as in the rack. Each cord is tested and the end-faces are checked by interferometer before it ships.

Features

  • LC on both ends. Snap-in connectors with PC-polished ferrules, the standard multimode finish, for SFP+ transceivers, switches, and LC patch panels.
  • OM3 laser-optimized multimode, 50/125 µm. 10GBASE-SR to 300 m, 1000BASE-SX to 550 m, and 25G, 40G, and 100G duplex links over shorter spans.
  • Duplex zipcord. Two fibers in one jacket, wired A-to-B, for a matched transmit and receive pair.
  • Low insertion loss. 0.20 dB typical and 0.30 dB maximum per connector.
  • 1.25 mm ceramic ferrules, checked by 3D interferometry for end-face geometry.
  • Aqua LSZH jacket, OFNR rated, 1.8 × 3.7 mm. Low smoke and no halogen acids in a fire, with a riser listing for runs between floors; standard duplex zipcord size that fits any LC panel and cable manager.
  • UL Listed for the US and Canada, and RoHS compliant.
  • Twenty lengths from 1 to 100 m.

Where It Fits

It suits top-of-rack switch to server and storage links, SFP+ uplinks between switches, routers, and firewalls, switch-to-patch-panel and panel-to-panel jumpers in a 50 µm plant, SAN and Fibre Channel links at 8G, 16G, and 32G, building backbones and riser links between floors at 10 Gigabit, data halls and equipment rooms that specify LSZH, and any multimode link between two LC ports, from a short rack jumper to a 100 m run.

Good to Know

Match the fiber, not just the connectors. OM3 and OM4 are both 50 µm and mix freely at the distances a patch cord covers; OM1 is 62.5 µm and doesn't, so on an orange 62.5 µm plant use the OM1 cord instead. For new 10 Gigabit runs over 300 m, or for 40G and 100G links that need the extra reach, OM4 takes 10GBASE-SR to 400 m and is worth the small premium; for anything longer, or anything that may become 100G over distance, go single-mode. 40G and 100G over a duplex LC cord means BiDi or SWDM transceivers; standard 40GBASE-SR4 and 100GBASE-SR4 use MPO cords, not this one. Use multimode SR transceivers; a single-mode LR module won't light a multimode link reliably. Keep dust caps on until the moment you plug in, and clean both the connector and the port with a 1.25 mm one-click cleaner before mating. If the panel end is SC or ST rather than LC, look at the LC to SC or LC to ST OM3 cord.
