This is the everyday Cat6 patch cord, and for most new networks it's the one to buy by default. It costs a little more than Cat5e and gives you the headroom for 2.5G and 5G links, which is where switches, access points, and NAS boxes are heading. It comes in seventeen lengths from half a foot to 100 feet so you can buy the run you need instead of coiling up slack.

The 24 AWG stranded copper conductors keep it flexible, and the snagless boot keeps the latch from breaking when you pull it through a bundle or out from behind a desk. It meets Category 6 and works with Cat5e and Cat6A equipment.

Features

  • Gigabit and multi-gig rated. It runs 10/100/1000 Mbps, 2.5G, and 5G links, and 10GBase-T over short patch runs.
  • Molded snagless strain-relief boot. It protects the latch and makes the cord easy to pull through bundles without snagging.
  • 24 AWG stranded bare copper. Full-gauge conductors with no copper-clad aluminum, and the stranding keeps it flexible.
  • Unshielded (UTP). No shield means no grounding to worry about and an easy cable to route.
  • Flexible PVC jacket. The cable is RoHS compliant.
  • T568B wiring. It comes in 0.5 to 100 ft lengths and nine colors for color-coding your network.

Where It Fits

It suits desks and wall jacks, home and small office networks, patch panel to switch links, multi-gig access points and NAS units, VoIP phones and PoE devices, gaming and streaming gear, and any connection that gets plugged and unplugged more than once.

Good to Know

Cat6 carries 10G over short distances only; if you need 10G on a longer channel, use Cat6A. For a spot next to motors, welders, or high-voltage gear, use the shielded F/UTP version of this cord. For a full patch panel where cable bulk is the problem, the slim 28 AWG Cat6 cord is the same category at about half the diameter.
