This is everything a Cat5e shielded termination job needs in one hard-shell case: a stripper for the shielded jacket, a ratcheting crimper for the plugs, a tester to prove the cable before it goes live, fifty Easy Feed shielded Cat5e RJ45 plugs, and fifty shielded boots to finish them. The plugs are the pass-through kind, where the conductors slide through the plug body and line up on their own, so the crimper's single cycle seats all eight at once, and the tester reads the result for continuity, opens, shorts, miswires, reversals, and split pairs before you call the drop done. It works on shielded Cat5e bulk cable in CM, CMR, or CMP, for voice, data, video, and security runs alike, from a single office to a campus, and the plugs and boots come in refillable containers so the case stays organized after the first fifty are gone.

What's in the Kit

  • Adjustable cable stripper and cutter. Compact and lightweight, with a spring-loaded action, a self-adjusting cable holder, and a durable blade that strip the jacket on Cat5e shielded bulk cable cleanly, and a large finger loop to spin the tool around the cable for an even cut.
  • Ratcheting crimp tool. A straight-action ratcheting mechanism seats Easy Feed RJ45 plugs with the same crimp every cycle; the ratchet holds until the crimp is complete. Built-in wire cutter and stripper, molded rubber handles for a long session, and an all-steel frame with a rust-resistant black oxide finish.
  • Network cable tester. Main and remote units check UTP and STP cable for continuity and wiring configuration and detect open circuits, shorts, miswires, reversals, and split pairs, with wiring maps for T568A and T568B, 10BASE-T, and Token Ring, and a debug mode that pinpoints a wiring fault.
  • Fifty Easy Feed shielded Cat5e RJ45 plugs. Slide-through design lets you feed all eight conductors out the front of the plug for alignment before crimping, keeping the pairs straight and in line with no stagger. For 23 to 26 AWG shielded solid or stranded Cat5e, with gold-plated three-prong contacts.
  • Fifty slip-on shielded strain relief boots. Made for Easy Feed RJ45 plugs, they relieve the pull on the modular plug, protect a custom patch cord from accidental disconnects, and have a snag-free profile for pulling cable through racks and walls.
  • Hard-shell carrying case. Rugged plastic with dual locking hinges, with the plugs and boots in refillable containers inside, so everything stays sorted between jobs.

Where It Fits

It suits installers building shielded Cat5e patch cords and field terminations where the spec calls for shielded cable, offices, plants, and healthcare sites with the electrical noise that makes shielding worthwhile, security and access control runs on shielded Cat5e, IT staff who terminate the occasional shielded drop and need a kit that's complete when they open it, and training and apprentice sets where every piece of the shielded termination workflow should be in the same case.

Good to Know

Shielded termination is a two-part job: the pairs go through the plug the same as any Easy Feed termination, and then the shield has to be bonded. Strip the jacket, fold the foil and drain wire back over the jacket, feed the conductors through the plug in T568B order, pull them snug so the jacket sits inside the strain relief, check the colors, and crimp; then make sure the shield is in firm contact with the plug's metal shell, since a shielded plug with the shield floating is an unshielded termination with extra parts. The shield only does its job when it's grounded, normally at one end at the patch panel, so the jacks and panels on the other end of these cords should be shielded too. Check that the plug face is flush after each crimp, since a conductor left proud can short in the jack. The plugs are sized for 23 to 26 AWG shielded cable, which covers Cat5e and standard Cat6; large-diameter Cat6A needs its own plugs and crimper. Slide the boot onto the cable before you crimp the plug, not after; it's the step everyone forgets once. The tester proves the wiring, not the bandwidth: a pass means the pairs are connected and in the right order, and it checks STP for conductor faults, not for shield continuity; a certifier is the tool for a performance guarantee. Test with the remote at the far end and read both units; on a split pair the map can look right and the debug mode is what catches it. Keep the stripper's blade depth set for the cable in hand, and score and flex rather than forcing the cut, since a blade that nicks the foil can short it to a pair.
