Spring-ear locking terminators are the common kind on a cable tap, and the ports they sit on are often between trap shields with no room for fingers. The Jonard Tools TT-4 is a 4-1/2 in terminator tool for them: a 2-1/2 in chrome vanadium steel shaft on a 1 in handle, short enough to work between shields and in the hard-to-reach places on a crowded tap, with a tip shaped to keep foreign debris out of the tool. It fits a long list of spring-ear locking terminators, including Gilbert Engineering GTP (Morlock), PRC, LFT, PCT, TPG, TR 75 GTL (Viewsonics), and Signal Vision SV-LT and SV-LTA, and it also opens NO-3 and NO-4 Pedlock pedestal locks. Good to Know

Locking terminators are access control for the operator's plant, and the tool is for technicians authorized to open and secure those ports; carry it on the strength of the work order. Match the terminator type before you reach for the tool: spring-ear terminators from the makers listed are what this tool fits, and a cam-style terminator such as the Corning Gilbert NS-5762 takes a different tool, so a terminator that won't engage is the wrong type rather than a dull tip. Seat the tip squarely on the terminator, push until it engages the ears, and turn; the tool releases and turns the terminator, and forcing one that won't move is how an ear breaks off inside the port. Put the terminator back on every port you open and don't leave terminated, since an open tap port is both a leak and an invitation. The tip is shaped to keep debris out, but a tap in the weather still collects grit; knock the tool out before it goes back in the pocket, and a wipe of oil on the shaft keeps the chrome vanadium from pitting. Tap ports on a powered plant can be live; check before working at the tap.
