SC/UPC Duplex Fiber Adapter, Single-Mode, Blue, Ceramic Sleeve, Flanged (FOS-SCU-D)

This is a duplex SC/UPC fiber adapter for single-mode, the blue coupler that joins two pairs of SC/UPC connectors end to end through a panel, with the transmit and receive fibers side by side. It's a plastic housing with flanges and a snap-in body in the standard SC duplex footprint, so it drops into the duplex SC cutout on a fiber distribution pedestal, a fiber distribution unit, a patch panel, or a wall-mount enclosure without tools. Each port has a ceramic alignment sleeve, and the housing is blue, which is the color code for single-mode UPC. It takes SC/UPC connectors on OS1 or OS2 single-mode fiber; a green SC/APC connector has an angled end-face and doesn't mate with it. It comes with metal clips and dust caps, it's RoHS compliant, and it's sold individually. For a plate already loaded with these, the FAP-SM-SC-6D with six or the FAP-SM-SC-3D with three; for one fiber per adapter, the simplex FOS-SCU-S; for the cords, the SCSCSM with SC on both ends and the LCSCSM for SC to an LC switch port; for the pigtails behind the panel, the PGTSC12-SM and PGUSC12-SM; for four LC ports in this same cutout, the multimode FOM-LCP-Q.
Features
- Duplex SC/UPC. Two SC ports, single-mode, blue.
- Ceramic alignment sleeves. Low loss and low back reflection on both ports.
- SC duplex footprint. Fits the standard duplex SC cutout in any panel, pedestal, FDU, or enclosure.
- Flanged, snap-in. Plastic housing; no tools.
- OS1 and OS2. For SC/UPC connectors; not for SC/APC.
- Metal clips and dust caps included.
- RoHS compliant.
- Sold individually.
Where It Fits
It suits a fiber distribution pedestal or an outside-plant FDU where single-mode drops are patched in pairs on SC and the enclosure's cutouts are duplex. It suits a telecom room or a campus backbone where a single-mode cable is spliced to SC pigtails in the tray behind a panel and the circuits are two-fiber Ethernet links that want transmit and receive kept together. Installers loading a blank LGX plate or an FDU port by port use it, and so do techs replacing a worn or cracked duplex adapter in an existing SC panel without touching the plate. An FTTH distribution point or a long-haul link terminated on SC/UPC is a candidate. It goes with the single-mode SC patch cords from the fiber patch cable collection, with the SC pigtails and adapter plates from the fiber panel collection, and with the rack-mount and wall-mount enclosures. For a plate loaded with these, the FAP-SM-SC-6D or FAP-SM-SC-3D. For single fibers, the simplex FOS-SCU-S. For the cords, the SCSCSM, and for SC to LC, the LCSCSM. For the pigtails, the PGTSC12-SM and PGUSC12-SM. For the same cutout on LC, the FOM-LCP-Q, and for an APC plant, the FOS-LCA-DF.
Good to Know
Blue means single-mode UPC, and the adapter will mate whatever SC connector goes into it, including a beige multimode cord, with the loss of a 50 µm core feeding a 9 µm one landing right at the panel; keep single-mode on blue adapters and multimode on beige, and let the connector color be the cue. It's UPC, with a flat end-face, for the blue SC/UPC connector on nearly every single-mode cord, pigtail, and transceiver; a green SC/APC connector has an 8° angle, and the two leave an air gap that costs a few dB and sends a reflection back up the fiber, so an APC plant needs an APC adapter. Duplex or simplex is the choice between this adapter and the FOS-SCU-S: a duplex adapter holds a transmit-and-receive pair side by side and keeps polarity for you, which is what a two-fiber Ethernet link wants, while a simplex adapter suits single-fiber circuits, bidirectional links on BX optics, or a panel where the pairing changes. Keep the A and B fibers in the right positions on both sides so the polarity comes out as the as-built says. The snap-in flanges are what hold it in a stamped cutout, and the metal clips in the box are for plates that take a clip rather than a flange, so check which the panel wants before you order a quantity. An SC duplex cutout is the same footprint a quad LC adapter uses, so a panel full of these can move to LC later, four ports per cutout, without a new plate. Clean and inspect every ferrule before it goes in, and leave the dust caps in any port without a cord, since an open single-mode port collects dust that shows up as loss. Don't look into an open port on a live link.
