SC/APC Duplex Fiber Adapter, Single-Mode, Green, 8°, Ceramic Sleeve, Flanged (FOS-SCA-D)

This is a duplex SC/APC fiber adapter for single-mode, the green coupler that joins two pairs of SC/APC connectors end to end through a panel, with the transmit and receive fibers side by side. It's a plastic housing with integrated flanges and a snap-in body in the standard SC duplex footprint, so it drops into the duplex SC cutout on a fiber distribution pedestal, a fiber distribution unit, a patch panel, or a wall-mount enclosure without tools. Each port has a ceramic alignment sleeve, and the housing is green, which is the color code for the 8° angled polish that keeps back reflection low on PON, CATV, RFoG, WDM, and other links that can't tolerate light bouncing back toward the transmitter. It takes SC/APC connectors only, on OS1 or OS2 single-mode fiber; a blue SC/UPC connector has a flat end-face and doesn't mate with an angled one. It comes with metal clips and dust caps, it's RoHS compliant, and it's sold individually. Where It Fits

It suits a fiber distribution pedestal or an outside-plant FDU on an APC plant where single-mode circuits are patched in pairs on SC and the enclosure's cutouts are duplex. It suits a CATV or RF-over-fiber head end where the forward and return paths run on two fibers and a reflective UPC adapter would put noise in the picture, and a WDM shelf where the return loss spec rules UPC out. Installers loading a blank LGX plate or an FDU port by port on an APC plant use it, and so do techs replacing a worn duplex adapter in an existing green panel without changing the plate. A PON head end where the OLT uplinks or the inter-office links run as two-fiber circuits on SC/APC is a candidate. It goes with the SC/APC patch cords from the single-mode patch cable collection, with the SC/APC pigtails and adapter plates from the fiber panel collection, and with the fiber cleaners from the test equipment collection. Good to Know

Green means APC, and it's a hard rule, not a color preference: an 8° angled ferrule against a flat UPC ferrule leaves an air gap at the end-face, which costs a few dB and sends a reflection back up the fiber, so every connector that goes into this adapter has to be green SC/APC, and the cord at the other end of each port has to match whatever it plugs into. The ceramic sleeve is the right sleeve for single-mode; a phosphor bronze sleeve is a multimode part and doesn't hold a 9 µm core to the tolerance a single-mode link needs. Duplex or simplex is the choice between this adapter and the FOS-SCA-S: a duplex adapter holds a transmit-and-receive pair side by side and keeps polarity for you, which is what a two-fiber circuit wants, while a PON or FTTH drop runs both directions on one fiber and takes the simplex adapter. Keep the A and B fibers in the right positions on both sides so the polarity comes out as the as-built says. The snap-in flanges are what hold it in a stamped cutout, and the metal clips in the box are for plates that take a clip rather than a flange, so check which the panel wants before you order a quantity. Clean and inspect every ferrule before it goes in, since an APC end-face shows dirt as loss and reflection just like any other, and leave the dust caps in any port without a cord. Don't look into an open port on a live link; a CATV or PON port carries a laser whether or not anything is on the other end.
