SC/UPC to SC/APC Fiber Patch Cable - Single Mode OS2 9/125μm Duplex

SC is the original push-pull fiber connector, and it's still everywhere the fiber meets a building: FTTH wall outlets, ONTs, splitters, and PON ports are SC/APC, the green angled version, while older media converters, SC patch panels, and much of the installed base are SC/UPC, the blue flat version. They look alike and share the same 2.5 mm ferrule, but they can't be plugged into each other without damage and a big loss. This cord has one of each, so an SC/UPC panel or transceiver can land on an SC/APC outlet or OLT directly, without a hybrid adapter or a splice.

It's OS2 single-mode fiber, 9/125 µm, in a duplex zipcord for a transmit and receive pair. Each cord is tested for insertion and return loss and the end-faces are checked by interferometer before it ships.

Features

• SC/UPC to SC/APC. Blue flat-polished SC on one end, green 8° angle-polished SC on the other, for connecting UPC equipment to APC outlets, ONTs, and PON gear.
• OS2 single-mode, 9/125 µm. For 1310 and 1550 nm links, from a patch panel jumper to a campus or metro span.
• Duplex zipcord. Two fibers in one jacket, wired A-to-B, for a matched transmit and receive pair.
• Low insertion loss. 0.15 dB typical and 0.30 dB maximum per connector.
• Low back reflection. The APC end's angled face sends reflections into the cladding instead of back down the fiber, which is what PON and other reflection-sensitive gear requires.
• 2.5 mm ceramic ferrules on both ends, checked by 3D interferometry for end-face geometry.
• Push-pull SC housings. Square latch that seats positively and releases without tools.
• Yellow PVC jacket, 1.8 × 3.7 mm. Standard duplex zipcord that fits any SC patch panel and cable manager.
• UL Listed for the US and Canada, and RoHS compliant.
• Fourteen lengths from 1 to 30 m.

Where It Fits

It suits connecting an SC/APC fiber outlet or ONT to an SC/UPC media converter or patch panel, FTTH and MDU head-end work where the distribution side is SC/APC and the legacy panels are SC/UPC, patching a PON OLT's SC/APC ports to an existing SC/UPC frame, phased upgrades where one side of the link has moved to APC and the other hasn't yet, and any single-mode link where one SC port is green and the other is blue.

Good to Know

Match each connector to its port, not to the other end of the cord. The green SC/APC end goes into a green SC/APC port and the blue SC/UPC end into a blue SC/UPC port; forcing an angled ferrule against a flat one leaves an air gap that costs several dB and can scratch the port. Because both ends are SC, it's easy to grab the wrong one; look at the boot color before you plug in. If both of your SC ports are the same color, you want an SC/UPC to SC/UPC or SC/APC to SC/APC cord instead, and if the UPC side is an LC port, look at the LC/UPC to SC/APC cord. Keep dust caps on until the moment you plug in, and clean both the connector and the port with a 2.5 mm one-click cleaner before mating; a fingerprint on a single-mode ferrule costs more than the whole cord's loss budget. For runs longer than 30 m, or where the cord will be pulled through a tray or conduit, ask about a 3.0 mm jacket or an OFNR-rated cable.
