SC/APC to SC/APC Fiber Patch Cable - Single Mode OS2 9/125μm Simplex

This is the FTTH jumper. A PON network carries both directions on a single fiber, so the cord from the wall outlet to the ONT, from a splitter port to a distribution panel, or from an OLT port to a splitter is one fiber, not two, and it's terminated on SC/APC at both ends because a shared-fiber system can't tolerate light reflecting back toward the laser. This is that cord: one OS2 fiber in a 3.0 mm jacket with a green SC/APC connector at each end, in the short lengths that a customer premises or a splitter cabinet calls for.

It's OS2 single-mode fiber, 9/125 µm. Each cord is tested for insertion and return loss and the end-faces are checked by interferometer before it ships.

Features

• SC/APC on both ends. Green 8° angle-polished push-pull connectors, the standard for FTTH outlets, ONTs, splitters, and PON ports.
• Simplex. One fiber, for single-fiber links: PON, BiDi transceivers, and one leg of a split transmit and receive pair.
• OS2 single-mode, 9/125 µm. For 1310, 1490, and 1550 nm PON wavelengths and any other single-mode link.
• Low insertion loss. 0.15 dB typical and 0.30 dB maximum per connector.
• High return loss. 60 dB or better, about ten times less reflected light than a UPC connector.
• 2.5 mm ceramic ferrules, checked by 3D interferometry for end-face geometry and angle.
• Push-pull housings. Square latch that seats positively and releases without tools.
• Yellow PVC jacket, 3.0 mm round. Heavier than a 2.0 mm cord, for wall outlets, cabinets, and places it'll get handled.
• UL Listed for the US and Canada, and RoHS compliant.
• 1 m and 2 m.

Where It Fits

It suits the jumper from an FTTH wall outlet to the ONT or gateway, splitter-to-panel and OLT-to-splitter connections in a PON cabinet or head-end, MDU riser closets and fiber distribution terminals, BiDi single-fiber SFP links between two APC ports, CATV and RF-over-fiber node connections, and any single-fiber, single-mode link between two green SC ports.

Good to Know

Both ends are APC, so both of your ports need to be green. Forcing an angled APC ferrule against a flat blue UPC one leaves an air gap that costs several dB and can scratch the port. If one side of the link is blue, you want the SC/UPC to SC/APC cord, and if you need two fibers for a conventional transmit and receive pair, look at the duplex cords. The ONT jumper is the connection most likely to be unplugged and re-plugged by someone who isn't a technician, so clean it every time: keep dust caps on until the moment you plug in, and use a 2.5 mm one-click cleaner on both the connector and the port before mating; a fingerprint on a single-mode ferrule costs more than the whole cord's loss budget, and on an APC end it also spoils the return loss the connector exists to provide. APC ferrules are keyed so the angles line up when mated; if a connector won't seat, don't force it, check the key. Keep the bend radius above about 30 mm, and don't staple or cinch it against a wall.
