SC/APC to SC/APC Fiber Patch Cable - Single Mode OS2 9/125μm Duplex

SC/APC is the connector of the access network: the green push-pull plug on OLT ports, splitter trays, distribution panels, FTTH outlets, and CATV nodes, chosen because those systems can't tolerate light reflecting back toward the laser. This is the duplex version, two fibers in one jacket with a pair of SC/APC connectors at each end, for the places in a PON head-end, cable headend, or DWDM system where a transmit and receive pair runs between two green SC ports: OLT uplinks, mux-to-mux links, and cross-connects between APC-terminated panels.

It's OS2 single-mode fiber, 9/125 µm, in a 3.0 mm duplex zipcord that's a little tougher than the usual 2.0 mm patch cord. Each cord is tested for insertion and return loss and the end-faces are checked by interferometer before it ships.

Features

• SC/APC on both ends. Green 8° angle-polished push-pull connectors, for the APC ports on PON, CATV, DWDM, and other reflection-sensitive gear.

• Low insertion loss. 0.15 dB typical and 0.30 dB maximum per connector.
• High return loss. 60 dB or better, about ten times less reflected light than a UPC connector.
• 2.5 mm ceramic ferrules, checked by 3D interferometry for end-face geometry and angle.
• Push-pull housings. Square latch that seats positively and releases without tools.
• Yellow PVC jacket, 3.0 × 6.1 mm. Heavier 3.0 mm zipcord for equipment rooms and trays.
• UL Listed for the US and Canada, and RoHS compliant.
• Fifteen lengths from 1 to 30 m.

Where It Fits

It suits OLT uplinks and cross-connects between APC-terminated panels in a PON head-end, jumpers between splitter trays and distribution frames in an FTTH cabinet or MDU closet, CATV and RF-over-fiber headends, DWDM and CWDM mux-to-mux links, optical test setups where a reflection would corrupt an OTDR or return-loss measurement, and any single-mode transmit and receive pair between two green SC ports.

Good to Know

Both ends are APC, so both of your ports need to be green. Almost every switch, SFP, and enterprise patch panel is blue UPC, and forcing an angled APC ferrule against a flat UPC one leaves an air gap that costs several dB and can scratch the port. If one end of your link is blue, you want the SC/UPC to SC/APC cord instead; if the equipment side is LC, the LC/APC to SC/APC cord; and if the link is a single fiber, as an ONT jumper or a PON drop is, the simplex SC/APC cord. APC ferrules are keyed so the angles line up when mated; if a connector won't seat, don't force it, check the key. Keep dust caps on until the moment you plug in, and clean both the connector and the port with a 2.5 mm one-click cleaner before mating; a fingerprint on a single-mode ferrule costs more than the whole cord's loss budget, and on an APC end it also spoils the return loss the connector exists to provide. For runs longer than 30 m, or where the cord will be pulled through conduit, ask about an OFNR-rated cable.
