The sleeve guide does the checking, but the prep is still yours: strip the cable to the connector's dimensions with a coax stripper, fold the braid back over the jacket, keep every strand of braid off the center conductor, and push the connector on until the guide pops free, which is the signal that the dielectric is seated against the inside of the nut; if the guide doesn't detach, the cable isn't in far enough, and compressing it anyway makes the connector that fails in the rain. Use a compression tool with the right stroke for this connector; a crimp tool or pliers will crush the body without seating it. The O-ring seals the nut on the port, so the front still needs to be snug with a 7/16 in wrench, and outdoors a weather boot or a drip loop keeps water off the back of the nut. Standard and quad-shield RG6 take the same connector, but the quad-shield cable is thicker under the jacket, so it goes on harder; that's normal. The green ring is identification, not a performance grade, so match it to your own color code if you use one. Order the tool with the first bag if you don't have one, and keep a few spares on the truck for the ones that get cut off in testing.
