RG6 Quad Shield Plenum Cable CMP - 18 AWG CCS, Fire-Rated, 1000ft White

In an office, school, hospital, or store, the space above the drop ceiling is usually a return-air plenum, and any cable that runs through it without conduit has to be plenum rated. This is the RG6 for those buildings, and it's the heavily shielded one: two bonded aluminum foils and two aluminum braids, 70% and 55% coverage, for the electrically noisy ceiling spaces where fluorescent ballasts, VFDs, and HVAC motors share the void with the cable. The center conductor is 18 AWG copper-clad steel in a foam FEP dielectric, the fluoropolymer that plenum coax uses because it doesn't feed a fire or give off dense smoke, and the low-smoke CMP jacket is listed for return-air plenums, drop ceilings, and raised floors under NEC Article 800.

It comes on a 1000 ft wooden spool, in white.

It suits CATV and broadband distribution through the ceiling space in offices, hotels, hospitals, schools, and retail, HD-over-coax and analog security camera runs in commercial buildings with a return-air plenum, MoCA backbones in multi-tenant buildings, satellite and antenna distribution in commercial properties, head-end and equipment room connections that cross a raised floor, and any plenum-space coax run in an electrically noisy building.

Good to Know

Quad shield is thicker than dual shield, so it needs quad-shield compression F connectors; standard RG6 connectors won't seat over the second braid. Plenum cable is stiffer than PVC and the FEP dielectric doesn't like a tight bend, so give it a generous radius and pull from a spool on a stand rather than off the end of the reel. Plenum-rated cable is for the air-handling space, not for inside the ductwork itself, which the NEC doesn't allow for any communications cable. The jacket isn't UV stabilized, so a run that continues outside should transition to an outdoor-rated cable at the wall. Copper-clad steel is fine for RF and for the low DC currents of a satellite LNB, but if a run has to power an amplifier over a long distance, a solid-copper RG6 has about a quarter the resistance. If the ceiling isn't a plenum, a CMR quad shield does the same job for a lot less.
