This is the RG6 for security cameras: an 18 AWG solid bare copper center conductor and a dense 95% bare copper braid, the all-copper construction that analog CCTV and HD-over-coax systems are specified around. Aluminum-shielded CATV coax carries RF just fine, but a camera feed is baseband video with a return path through the shield, and it wants the low resistance of a copper braid from end to end, especially on a long run to a pole or a parking lot. The same construction also makes it a good choice for a run that has to carry power or DC control down the coax, and for broadcast and pro A/V work where the braid is the ground. It's rated to 3 GHz, so it doubles as an ordinary CATV, satellite, DOCSIS, or MoCA cable when you need one.

The flame-retardant PVC jacket is CM rated for general in-building use and UV resistant for a run that ends outside at a camera housing. It comes in a 1000 ft pull box, in black.

Features

  • 95% bare copper braid. The dense copper shield that CCTV, HD-TVI, HD-CVI, AHD, and SDI camera systems call for, with the low shield resistance a baseband video return path needs.
  • 18 AWG solid bare copper center conductor. About a quarter the DC resistance of copper-clad steel, for long camera runs and for coax that carries power or control signals along with the video.
  • 75 Ω, rated to 3 GHz. Covers cable TV and DOCSIS to 1.2 GHz, satellite IF to 2.15 GHz, and MoCA to 1.675 GHz, so it also works as a general-purpose RG6.
  • Foam polyethylene dielectric. Low loss and stable impedance over the whole band.
  • CM rated, UV-resistant jacket. Flame-retardant PVC listed for general in-wall and in-ceiling use, with UV resistance for the exposed tail at a camera.
  • UL Listed and RoHS compliant.
  • 1000 ft pull box, black. Pays out from the box without a spool stand, and the box stacks in a van.

Where It Fits

It suits analog and HD-over-coax security camera systems (HD-TVI, HD-CVI, AHD) in homes, retail, warehouses, and parking structures, camera runs that carry DC or control signals over the coax, SDI and broadcast video links, pro A/V installations where the shield is the signal ground, CATV, satellite, DOCSIS, and MoCA distribution, and any indoor RG6 run where a solid copper conductor and a copper braid are specified.

Good to Know

Match the connector to the cable: a copper braid is stiffer and denser than an aluminum one, so use compression BNC or F connectors sized for RG6 and prep the braid carefully so no strands short to the center pin. For a camera system, a 95% braid is the shield to look for; foil-only or 40% braid CATV cable can work on a short run but tends to pick up hum and ghosting on a long one. The center conductor is solid bare copper, so it carries DC comfortably; a coax with an 18 AWG copper center and a copper braid can power a camera over a few hundred feet, which copper-clad steel can't do well. This is a single-braid cable, not a foil-and-braid combination, so for a run through an electrically noisy area next to VFDs or a transmitter a quad shield has more RF rejection, though it gives up the copper braid. The jacket is CM rated, which covers general in-wall and in-ceiling use but not riser shafts between floors or return-air plenums; for those, use a CMR or CMP cable. UV resistance protects the tail at an outdoor camera housing, but PVC isn't a burial or full-exposure jacket, so a long outdoor run should be in conduit or should switch to a direct burial cable. Keep the bend radius above 3 inches and the pulling tension under 110 lb.
