This is the RG6 for the runs that matter: a solid bare copper center conductor instead of copper-clad steel, and four layers of shield instead of two. Bare copper has about a quarter the DC resistance of CCS, which is what you want when the cable has to carry power to a satellite LNB, a line amplifier, or a MoCA adapter over a long run, and it's the conductor the cable operators specify for their own drops. Quad shield stacks a second foil and a 40% braid on top of the standard foil-and-60%-braid, for the electrically noisy places a dual shield struggles: riser shafts shared with power feeders, plant floors, and buildings near broadcast towers. It's swept to 3 GHz and the flame-retardant PVC jacket is CMR riser rated, so it can run between floors in a multi-story building.

Features

• 18 AWG solid bare copper center conductor. 21 Ω/km, about a quarter the resistance of copper-clad steel, for DC-powered LNBs and amplifiers and for the lowest attenuation at low frequencies.
• Quad shield. Bonded aluminum foil, 60% aluminum braid, a second aluminum foil, and a 40% aluminum braid, in that order, for the highest EMI rejection an RG6 offers.
• 75 Ω, swept to 3 GHz. Covers cable TV and DOCSIS to 1.2 GHz, satellite IF to 2.15 GHz, and MoCA to 1.675 GHz.
• Structural return loss better than 22 dB to 480 MHz and 20 dB to 3 GHz. Consistent impedance along the length, which is what keeps reflections and ghosting out of the picture.
• CMR riser rated. Flame-retardant PVC jacket listed for riser runs between floors as well as general in-wall and ceiling use.
• UV-stabilized black jacket. Holds up on the exterior wall run from the dish or demarc to the entry point.
• Foam polyethylene dielectric. Low loss and stable impedance over the whole band.
• 1000 ft pull box. Pays out without kinks or a spool stand.

Where It Fits

It suits satellite dish and multiswitch drops that carry LNB power, CATV and broadband distribution in apartment buildings, condos, hotels, and offices, riser runs between floors that share a shaft with electrical feeders, MoCA backbones, security camera and DVR video distribution over coax, rooftop antenna downleads, and any residential or commercial coax run where a dual-shield CCS cable would pick up interference or drop too much voltage.

Good to Know

Quad shield is thicker than dual shield, so it needs quad-shield compression F connectors; standard RG6 connectors won't seat over the second braid. CMR is an indoor rating. The UV-stabilized jacket handles the short exposed run from a dish or demarc to the building entry, but this isn't a direct-burial or aerial-messenger cable, and for long outdoor runs a CMX-rated or flooded RG6 is the right choice. Ground the cable at the entry point with a grounding block bonded to the electrical service ground, as the NEC requires for coax entering a building. Bare copper is softer than CCS, so keep the pulling tension moderate and don't let the cable kink coming off the box. If your runs are ordinary CATV drops in a quiet residential environment with no DC on the line, a dual-shield CCS RG6 does the job for less and terminates with standard connectors.
