A security camera needs two things run to it, video and power, and this cable carries both in one pull. One leg is RG6 with an 18 AWG solid bare copper center conductor and a 95% bare copper braid, the construction that HD-over-coax cameras and DVRs are built around; the other is an 18/2 stranded bare copper pair for 12 V DC or 24 V AC camera power. They're joined by a web that peels apart at each end, so the coax gets a compression F or BNC connector and the power pair goes to the camera pigtail and the supply. It's swept to 3 GHz, and the flame-retardant PVC jacket is CM rated for in-wall and ceiling runs.

Features

• 18 AWG solid bare copper center conductor. 21 Ω/km, about a quarter the resistance of copper-clad steel, for the lowest loss on the long camera runs where HD-over-coax is most sensitive.
• 95% bare copper braid. The dense copper braid that analog and HD-TVI, HD-CVI, and AHD camera systems specify, with low-frequency shielding a foil-and-aluminum RG6 can't match and a solid path to ground for the video return.
• 18/2 stranded bare copper power pair. For 12 V DC or 24 V AC camera supplies; stranded so it flexes at the camera end without breaking.
• 75 Ω, swept to 3 GHz. Also covers cable TV, satellite, and MoCA if the coax leg is used on its own.
• CM rated. Flame-retardant PVC jacket listed for general in-wall and ceiling use in residential and commercial buildings.
• UV-stabilized jacket. Holds up on the exposed run along an eave or wall to an outdoor camera.
• Foam polyethylene dielectric. Low loss and stable impedance over the whole band.
• 500 ft pull box. Pays out without kinks or a spool stand.

Where It Fits

It suits HD-over-coax and analog security camera installs with a central DVR and power supply, retrofits that reuse existing coax camera positions, small business and residential surveillance with cameras under the eaves, parking lot and warehouse cameras on a 24 V AC supply, and any run where a camera needs video and power from the same head end.

Good to Know

The power pair is 18 AWG, which is fine for one camera per run but sets a distance limit: a 12 V DC camera drawing half an amp loses about a volt over 150 ft of this cable, and most 12 V cameras stop working reliably below 11 V, so keep 12 V DC runs under about 200 ft, or use a 24 V AC camera and supply, which tolerates the drop and reaches much further. The coax leg carries HD-TVI, CVI, and AHD video comfortably past 1,000 ft, so on a long run it's the power pair, not the video, that decides the length. CM is the general indoor rating; it covers walls and ceilings but not risers between floors or plenum spaces, and the UV-stabilized jacket handles exposed runs to a camera but isn't a burial or aerial cable. Terminate the coax with compression connectors sized for RG6 with a copper braid; the braid is stiffer than aluminum, so a good compression tool matters. Ground the DVR end properly and don't earth the braid at the camera end as well, or you'll get a ground loop and a hum bar in the picture.
