This is the budget indoor security camera cable: RG59 coax for the video and an 18/2 pair for the camera power, joined side by side in one flame-rated PVC jacket, so each camera in a store, office, or warehouse gets one pull from the DVR instead of two. The video conductor is solid bare copper, a 20 AWG center in foam polyethylene, which is the part that matters most for a clean picture. The savings come from the rest: the 95% braid and the two 18 AWG stranded power conductors are copper-clad aluminum rather than bare copper, which makes the cable lighter and cheaper and is fine for the short and medium runs most indoor camera systems are built from.

The jacket is UL Listed CM for the coax and CL2 for the power pair, which is the combination a siamese cable needs for concealed in-wall and in-ceiling runs under the NEC. It comes in a 1000 ft pull box, in black.

Where It Fits

It suits analog CCTV and HD-over-coax (HD-TVI, HD-CVI, AHD) camera systems in homes, small retail stores, offices, and restaurants, camera-to-DVR runs through walls, ceilings, and attics where the runs are a few dozen to a couple of hundred feet, surveillance expansions where new cameras are added to an existing coax DVR, and budget or high-camera-count installs where the cable cost adds up and the runs are short.

Good to Know

Plan the power leg with the copper-clad aluminum in mind. An 18 AWG CCA pair has roughly 60% more resistance than bare copper, about 10 ohms per 1000 ft round trip, so a 12 V DC camera drawing half an amp has lost more than a volt by about 125 ft; beyond that, use a 24 V AC camera, a local power supply near the camera, or the bare copper siamese cable. The same goes for the video on long runs: a CCA braid shields RF well, but the shield is also the return path for baseband video, and on a long run the higher resistance can show up as hum or a soft picture, so keep HD-over-coax runs comfortably inside the DVR maker's RG59 distance rating. CCA braid is also more brittle than copper, so fold it back cleanly when you terminate and don't flex the connector end repeatedly; compression BNC connectors sized for RG59 hold it best. CM and CL2 cover general in-wall and in-ceiling use but not riser shafts between floors or return-air plenums; a run through a plenum ceiling needs a CMP-rated cable. The jacket isn't UV stabilized or rated for burial, so where a camera is outside, keep the cable inside the wall or conduit and let only a short, sheltered tail reach the housing; for a trench, use the direct burial siamese cable. Install it between 0 °C and 45 °C; cold PVC stiffens and cracks if it's flexed hard. Split the two legs by slitting the web a few inches back at each end.
