This is a 3-piece crimp-on BNC male connector for RG59 coax: a body, a center pin, and a crimp ferrule. The pin crimps onto the center conductor, the ferrule crimps over the braid and the body's barrel, and the result is a BNC that holds by metal on metal rather than by threads in a jacket. It's a true 75 Ω BNC with a gold-plated center contact, and it locks onto a port with a quarter turn of the coupling nut over the two bayonet lugs. It needs a crimp tool, and in exchange it's the permanent termination for an RG59 run in a CCTV surveillance system, for RF and television lines, and for the leads on test instruments. For a no-tool connector on the same cable, the CONAE-1001TWI twist-on; for the compression version on RG6, the CONBA-1001SEA SealSmart.

Features

  • BNC male, crimp on. Three pieces: body, center pin, and crimp ferrule.
  • For RG59 coax. Crimp-style termination sized for RG59.
  • True 75 Ω BNC interface. Matched to RG59 and to video and RF equipment.
  • Gold-plated center contact. Minimizes loss at the contact and resists corrosion.
  • Quarter-turn bayonet lock. Two lugs on the mating female; the coupling nut locks with a quarter turn.
  • Crimp tool required. Sold separately.

Where It Fits

It suits security installers terminating RG59 camera and DVR runs for good, with the crimp tool on the belt, CCTV integrators who want one connector type across a whole system and a termination that doesn't come loose when the cable is tugged, AV, broadcast, and RF shops building RG59 BNC patch leads to length on the bench, test and lab benches making leads for instruments where a 75 Ω match matters, anyone who has had a twist-on BNC work loose in a ceiling, and a job that already has the RG59 bulk coax, the coax stripper, the crimp tool, and the BNC couplers and T adapters from the coax collections. For the tool-free version on RG59, the CONAE-1001TWI twist-on; for joining two BNC ends, the CONAN-1001COU coupler; for a tap, the CONAF-1001TEE T adapter.

Good to Know

A 3-piece crimp needs the right tool and the right dies: a hex crimper with a die for the RG59 ferrule and a smaller one for the pin, since a pin that's crimped with the ferrule die will be loose on the conductor and a ferrule crimped with pliers will be oval and let go. Slide the ferrule onto the cable first, before anything else, because it can't go on after the pin is crimped; strip the cable to the connector's dimensions, crimp the pin onto the bare center conductor, push the pin and dielectric into the body until the pin clicks home, fold the braid over the barrel, slide the ferrule up, and crimp. Keep every strand of braid off the pin, and don't nick the center conductor when stripping, since a nicked conductor is a pin that breaks off later. A crimped BNC has no weather seal, so outdoors it belongs inside the camera housing or under a boot. Seat the bayonet fully on the port: push until the lugs drop into the slots, then turn a quarter turn until it clicks. Gold on gold or gold on nickel is fine; the plating is for the contact surface, not to be matched. Keep a few spare connectors on the truck for the ones that get cut off in testing.
