Strain Relief Boot for Shielded Quick Feed Modular Plugs - 25 Pack (BOT-R45-SHD-EAS)

This is a snagless strain relief boot for our shielded Quick-Feed pass-through RJ45 plug, the PLG-R45-CAT6-ESS, and it also fits the unshielded Quick-Feed plugs, the PLG-R45-CAT6-EAS and PLG-R45-CAT5-EAS. It goes on in two steps: slide it onto the cable before you terminate, then after the crimp push it forward and its internal prongs clip into the plug housing and lock. Once it's on, the boot covers the latch so the plug doesn't snag or lose its tab when the cord is pulled through a rack, a wall, or a cable organizer, takes the pull off the crimp when the cord is tugged, and holds the cable in a gentle curve behind the plug instead of letting it kink. No tools, and it comes 25 to a pack. For slip-on boots for standard crimp plugs, the BOT-R45-58 and BOT-R45-68.

Good to Know

The boot has to be on the cable before the plug goes on, narrow end toward the plug; there's no putting it on afterward, and a crimped cord with no boot stays that way. Terminate, trim the pass-through ends flush, then slide the boot forward until the prongs clip into the housing and you feel them seat. The prongs are what hold it, so check that they've engaged rather than relying on friction; a boot that's only pushed on will walk back down the cable. On a shielded plug, make sure the boot seats over the shell and doesn't ride up on the folded-back braid; do the shield fold neatly and trim the excess so the boot has a round jacket to close on. It fits the unshielded Quick-Feed housing as well, so a mixed drawer of ESS and EAS plugs needs only this boot. The latch is pressed through the boot's guard, which is stiffer in the cold; a cord that's hard to unplug in a chilly closet is the boot doing its job. Buy a few more than the count of cords, since the one that goes on backward is the one you'll want to replace.
