A cable pull that changes direction at a beam, a corner, or the top of a riser drags the bundle across whatever is there, and the harder the pull, the deeper the scuff and the more likely a kink. The Jonard Tools CP-475 is a pair of cable pulleys that put a wheel at that turn: hang one from a swivel snap hook, lay the bundle in the deep groove, and the anti-friction roller bearings let up to 20 Cat5/6 network cables, or a comparable bundle of coax, electrical, or other low-voltage cable, roll around the corner instead of sawing across it. The swivel keeps the pulley lined up with the direction of the pull on its own, which is what prevents the kinks, and the snap hook goes on and comes off in seconds, so the pulley is easy to remove once the cable is in. The body is high-strength ABS plastic on zinc-coated steel for a long working life, each pulley is rated to 120 lb, and two in the pack cover a pull with two turns. Lifetime warranty.

Good to Know

Hang the pulley from something that can take the load: 120 lb is the pulley's rating, and the pull multiplies the tension at a turn, so the J-hook, strut, or beam clamp it's clipped to has to be rated for it too. Hook it so the wheel sits in the plane of the pull and let the swivel do the aligning; a pulley forced to one side rides the cable on the groove's edge. Keep the bundle inside the groove and under the 20-cable count, pull steadily rather than in jerks, and watch the pulley on the first few feet of a heavy pull, since a hook that's walking along its anchor is about to come off it. Use both pulleys where the pull has two turns, and add a third anchor point rather than a sharper angle where it has more. It's a pulling aid, not rigging; keep hands clear of the wheel and the bundle under tension, and don't use it to lift anything. Wipe the bearings clean after a dusty ceiling and keep the zinc-coated steel dry, since grit in a roller bearing is the end of a smooth pull. Two 0.63 lb pulleys and their hooks fit in the bag.
