The Jonard Tools VT-1100 is a pen-style non-contact voltage tester with two sensitivity ranges, so one tool covers both the mains work and the low-level signals a cabling tech runs into. On the high range, 90 to 1000 VAC, it finds live voltage in outlets, switches, circuit breakers, fuses, and electrical panels; on the low range, 24 to 1000 VAC, it picks up the weaker fields from audio systems, cables with thick insulation, and other faint AC signals that a single-range tester misses. It senses through insulation without touching a bare conductor, so you can check a cable or a box before you open it, and it answers with a bright LED and a beep. Good to Know

A non-contact tester tells you voltage is present; it never proves a circuit is dead. Check the tester on a known live source before and after every test, and treat a silent reading as "probably de-energized" until a contact meter or lockout confirms it. It senses the electric field of AC, so it won't detect DC, and it can read weakly or not at all on a conductor inside a grounded metal conduit or a shielded cable, where the field is contained. The low range is more sensitive, which is the point on faint signals, but it can also pick up a field from a neighbouring live conductor, so when you get a hit on the low range, confirm on the high range or with a meter before deciding which wire is live. The flashlight and the detector are separate functions; the light doesn't mean the tester is sensing. The CAT IV 1000 V rating is the tool's safety category for the environment it can be used in, not a measurement; use the right PPE for the work and keep your fingers behind the pen's barrier.
