ST Simplex Fiber Adapter, Multimode, Metal Barrel, Bayonet, D-Hole Mount with Nut (FOM-ST-S)

This is a simplex ST fiber adapter for multimode, the metal barrel coupler that joins two ST connectors end to end through a panel. It's a bayonet mount on both sides, so each ST connector pushes on and locks with a quarter turn, and the body is threaded with a D-shaped flat, so it drops through the standard ST cutout on a patch panel, cassette, adapter plate, or wall-mount enclosure and can't spin once the nut is on. It comes with the mounting nut, a locking washer, and rubber dust caps. It's coded beige for multimode and takes ST connectors on any multimode grade from OM1 to OM5. It's RoHS compliant, and it's sold individually. Where It Fits

It suits a school, a hospital, or an older campus where the backbone was pulled on 62.5 µm OM1 with ST on every end and the panels still have ST cutouts to fill. It suits an industrial site or a plant floor where the bayonet lock is the reason ST was chosen in the first place, since a quarter-turn connector doesn't shake loose. Installers replacing a worn or cross-threaded adapter in a legacy ST panel use it, and so do techs loading a blank plate or a wall-mount box with ST ports for a handful of OM1 strands. A media converter shelf on an old multimode plant is a candidate. It goes with the multimode ST patch cords from the fiber patch cable collection, with the ST pigtails, adapter plates, and keystones from the fiber panel collection, and with the rack-mount and wall-mount enclosures. Good to Know

ST is simplex by nature: each adapter carries one fiber, and a two-fiber link takes two adapters with the transmit and receive on separate connectors, so label which two make a pair and keep the A and B fibers straight on both sides of the panel. The adapter doesn't care which multimode grade is on either side, which means it will happily mate an orange 62.5 µm OM1 cord to an aqua 50 µm OM3 pigtail, with the core mismatch loss landing at the adapter; keep the cords, the pigtails, and the plant all one grade, and let the jacket color be the cue. Beige is the multimode color; a single-mode ST plant wants a single-mode adapter, since a 9 µm core needs a tighter sleeve than a multimode part holds. Mount it with the flat of the D-hole seated before you tighten the nut, snug the nut against the locking washer by hand and then a little more with a wrench, and don't overtighten a plate that's thin, since the barrel can distort. Seat each ST connector with its key in the slot and a quarter turn until it clicks; a connector that's on but not locked gives a link that works until someone bumps the cord. Clean and inspect every ferrule before it goes in, and leave the rubber dust caps in any port without a cord. Don't look into an open port on a live link.
