LC/UPC Duplex Fiber Adapter, Single-Mode, Blue, Ceramic Sleeve, Flanged, SC Simplex Footprint (FOS-LC-D)

This is a duplex LC/UPC fiber adapter for single-mode, the blue coupler that joins two pairs of LC/UPC connectors end to end through a panel, with the transmit and receive fibers side by side. It's a plastic housing with integrated flanges and a snap-fit body in the SC simplex footprint, so it drops into the same cutout as a simplex SC adapter and gives two LC ports in that space. Each port has a ceramic alignment sleeve, and the housing is blue, which is the color code for single-mode UPC. It takes LC/UPC connectors on OS1 or OS2 single-mode fiber; a green LC/APC connector has an angled end-face and doesn't mate with it. It comes with metal clips, it's RoHS compliant, and it's sold individually. For the same blue duplex without flanges, for a flangeless cutout, the FOS-LCU-D; for the green APC version, the FOS-LCA-DF; for a plate already loaded with duplex LC single-mode adapters, the FAP-SM-LCU-6DF with six, or 24 ports on the quad FAP-SM-LCU-6Q; for the cords, the LCLCSM with LC on both ends and the LCSCSM for LC to an SC port; for the pigtails behind the panel, the PGTLC6-SM and PGTLC12-SM; for a wall plate, the KEYLCSM-WHI LC keystone; for the same blue single-mode on SC, the FOS-SCU-S in this same footprint and the duplex FOS-SCU-D.
Features
- Duplex LC/UPC. Two LC ports, single-mode, blue.
- Ceramic alignment sleeves. Low loss and low back reflection on both ports.
- SC simplex footprint. Fits any SC simplex cutout in a panel, plate, FDU, or enclosure.
- Flanged, snap-fit. Plastic housing with integrated mounting flanges.
- OS1 and OS2. For LC/UPC connectors; not for LC/APC.
- Metal clips included.
- RoHS compliant.
- Sold individually.
Where It Fits
It suits a telecom room or a campus backbone where a single-mode cable is spliced to LC pigtails in the tray behind a panel and the plate has SC simplex cutouts, so each one goes from one SC port to two LC ports without a new plate. It suits a data center or a server rack where the switches are on LC and the enclosure was stamped for SC. Installers loading a blank LGX plate or a fiber distribution unit port by port use it, and so do techs converting an old SC simplex panel to LC as the gear changes, or replacing a cracked adapter in an existing LC panel. A metro or wide-area link terminated on LC/UPC in an equipment room is a candidate. It goes with the single-mode LC patch cords from the fiber patch cable collection, with the LC pigtails, adapter plates, and keystones from the fiber panel collection, and with the rack-mount and wall-mount enclosures. For a loaded plate, the FAP-SM-LCU-6DF or the quad FAP-SM-LCU-6Q. For the cords, the LCLCSM, and for LC to SC, the LCSCSM. For the pigtails, the PGTLC6-SM and PGTLC12-SM. For a wall plate, the KEYLCSM-WHI. For a flangeless cutout, the FOS-LCU-D. For an APC plant, the FOS-LCA-DF, and for SC, the FOS-SCU-S or FOS-SCU-D.
Good to Know
Blue means single-mode UPC, and the adapter will mate whatever LC connector goes into it, including a beige or aqua multimode cord, with the loss of a 50 µm core feeding a 9 µm one landing right at the panel; keep single-mode on blue adapters and multimode on beige, and let the connector color be the cue. It's UPC, with a flat end-face, for the blue LC/UPC connector on nearly every SFP, SFP+, cord, and pigtail; a green LC/APC connector has an 8° angle, and the two leave an air gap that costs a few dB and sends a reflection back up the fiber, so an APC plant needs the green FOS-LCA-DF instead. The ceramic sleeve is the right sleeve for single-mode; a phosphor bronze sleeve is a multimode part and doesn't hold a 9 µm core to the tolerance a single-mode link needs. Flanged or flangeless is the choice between this adapter and the FOS-LCU-D: this one has mounting ears with screw holes and snaps into the larger SC simplex cutout, while the flangeless one is held by clips through a cutout sized for its body, and neither stays in the other's plate, so match the adapter to the panel before you order a quantity. The metal clips in the box are for plates that take a clip rather than a flange. Keep the A and B fibers in the right positions on both sides so the duplex polarity comes out as the as-built says. Clean and inspect every ferrule before it goes in, and cap any port without a cord, since an open single-mode port collects dust that shows up as loss. Don't look into an open port on a live link.
