LC/APC Quad Fiber Adapter, Single-Mode, Green, 8°, Ceramic Sleeve, Flanged, SC Duplex Footprint (FOS-LCA-QF)

This is a quad LC/APC fiber adapter for single-mode, the green coupler that puts four LC/APC ports in the SC duplex footprint. It's a plastic housing with integrated flanges, so it drops into the same cutout as a duplex SC adapter and doubles the port count in that space. Each port has a ceramic alignment sleeve, and the housing is green, which is the color code for the 8° angled polish that keeps back reflection low on PON, CATV, RFoG, WDM, and other links that can't tolerate light bouncing back toward the transmitter. It takes LC/APC connectors only, on OS1 or OS2 single-mode fiber; a blue LC/UPC connector has a flat end-face and doesn't mate with an angled one. It comes with clips and dust caps, it's RoHS compliant, and it's sold individually. Where It Fits

It suits a PON or FTTH distribution panel where the splitter outputs land on LC/APC and the enclosure has SC duplex cutouts to fill at the highest port count. It suits a CATV or RF-over-fiber head end where a reflective UPC adapter would put noise in the picture, and a WDM or DWDM shelf where the return loss spec rules UPC out and the LC count per plate matters. Installers loading a custom LGX plate or a fiber distribution unit for an APC plant use it, and so do techs converting an SC duplex panel to LC/APC as the gear changes, four ports per cutout. A metro or wide-area link terminated on LC/APC in a crowded rack is a candidate. It goes with the LC/APC and SC/APC patch cords from the single-mode patch cable collection, with the SC/APC adapter plates and pigtails from the fiber panel collection, and with the fiber cleaners from the test equipment collection. Good to Know

Green means APC, and it's a hard rule, not a color preference: an 8° angled ferrule against a flat UPC ferrule leaves an air gap at the end-face, which costs a few dB and sends a reflection back up the fiber, so every connector that goes into this adapter has to be green LC/APC, and the cord at the other end of each port has to match whatever it plugs into. The ceramic sleeve is the right sleeve for single-mode; a phosphor bronze sleeve is a multimode part and doesn't hold a 9 µm core to the tolerance a single-mode link needs. Four LC in an SC duplex cutout is a tight cluster, so plan the cord dressing before you load the panel, use cords with a flexible boot or a pull tab, and expect to unplug a neighbor to reach an inside port. Keep the A and B fibers of each pair in the right positions on both sides so the duplex polarity comes out as the as-built says; with four ports in one adapter, label which two make a pair, and on a PON, where each drop is one fiber, label which port is which drop. The flanges are what hold it in a stamped cutout, and the clips in the box are for plates that take a clip rather than a flange, so check which the panel wants before you order a quantity. Clean and inspect every ferrule before it goes in, since an APC end-face shows dirt as loss and reflection just like any other, and leave the dust caps in any port without a cord. Don't look into an open port on a live link; a PON or CATV port carries a laser whether or not anything is on the other end. It usually ships in 1 to 2 business days.
