Oversize Snagless RJ45 Slip-On Boot for Shielded Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A, 6.8 mm OD, 7 Colors (BOT-R45-68)

This is an oversize snagless slip-on boot for an RJ45 plug on shielded Cat5e, Cat6, or Cat6A cable up to 6.8 mm OD. It slides onto the cable before the plug is crimped, then pushes up over the plug, where it covers the latch so the plug doesn't snag when the cord is pulled through a bundle, takes the strain off the crimp when the cord is tugged, and keeps dust out of the back of the plug. It fits solid or stranded round cable, it comes in seven colors so a cord can be coded by its job, and it's sold individually, so you buy the count you need. It's the boot for shielded Cat6A patch cords made with the PLG-R45-CT6AS plug and for any cable too thick for the 6.0 mm BOT-R45-58; for cable up to 7.5 mm, the clear BOT-OVR-75.
Features
- Oversize, for cable up to 6.8 mm OD (0.27 in). Shielded Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A; solid or stranded round cable.
- Snagless. Covers the RJ45 latch so the plug pulls through bundles and panels without catching.
- Strain relief. Takes the pull off the crimp at the back of the plug and keeps dust out.
- Seven colors. Black, blue, gray, green, red, white, and yellow.
- Sold individually.
Where It Fits
It suits data center and network techs making shielded Cat6A patch cords to length for 10GBASE-T ports and wanting them finished like factory cords, structured cabling crews terminating shielded bulk cable to plugs in a plant that runs S/FTP or F/UTP, industrial and AV racks where the Ethernet is shielded and thick, anyone who color-codes cords by VLAN, uplink, or customer and needs boots to match, anyone who has tried to force a 6.5 mm cable through a boot made for 6, and a job that already has the shielded bulk Cat6A, the PLG-R45-CT6AS shielded plugs, the FOIL-001 copper strips, and the crimp tool from the copper collections. For standard unshielded Cat5e and Cat6 up to 6.0 mm, the BOT-R45-58; for the thickest shielded Cat6A and Cat7 up to 7.5 mm, the BOT-OVR-75.
Good to Know
The boot goes on the cable before the plug, every time; there's no putting it on afterward. Slide it on narrow end toward the cable, do the shield wrap and the crimp, then push the boot up until it seats over the back of the plug and the latch cover sits above the latch. Measure the cable first: the boot is rated for cable up to 6.8 mm, so a jacket over that won't go, and a standard 5.5 mm unshielded Cat6 cable will sit loose in it and give little strain relief, which is what the BOT-R45-58 is for. Shielded cable jackets vary more than unshielded ones, so check a sample before buying a batch; between this boot, the 6.0 mm BOT-R45-58, and the 7.5 mm BOT-OVR-75, one of the three will fit snugly. Check that the boot clears the plug's shield shell and any ground tab before you crimp a whole batch, since an oversize boot on a shielded plug has to seat over the metal shell, not just the plastic. The latch cover makes the plug snagless but also means the latch is pressed through the boot, which is stiffer in the cold. Match the boot color to whatever color code the rack already uses, and buy a few more than the count of cords, since the one that goes on backward is the one you'll want to replace.
