A projector at the back of a lecture hall, a video wall across a lobby, or a display at the far end of a studio is a long way from the source, and no copper HDMI cable carries 4K at 60 Hz that far. This HDMI 2.0 active fiber optic cable does: a hybrid cable with a chipset in each connector that turns the 18 Gbps signal into light at the source end, carries it over fiber for 75 to 330 ft, and turns it back at the display end, with the copper conductors in the same 4.6 mm jacket carrying ARC, HEAC, HDCP 2.2, and the control lines. It holds full 4K/60 at YCbCr 4:4:4 with HDR over the whole run, draws its power from the HDMI ports so there's no supply at either end, and wears an LSZH jacket that gives off no toxic gas if it burns, which is what lets it be installed in enclosed spaces where a PVC cable can't go. It's directional, with a source end and a display end. For 35 to 75 ft at HDMI 2.1 and 48 Gbps, the HDMOAOC02; under 25 ft, the HDMI01 copper cable.

Features

  • 18 Gbps HDMI 2.0. 4K at 60 Hz, YCbCr 4:4:4, with HDR.
  • 75 to 330 ft without repeaters. The active fiber hybrid chipset keeps full signal integrity over the whole run.
  • ARC, HEAC, HDR, and HDCP 2.2. Audio return, Ethernet channel, and copy protection on the copper conductors.
  • No external power supply. The connector electronics run from the HDMI ports.
  • Directional connectors. Source end for the player, computer, or switcher; display end for the projector, monitor, or TV. Male to male.
  • LSZH jacket, 4.6 mm. Low smoke, zero halogen, for enclosed spaces and in-wall runs.

Where It Fits

It suits AV integrators feeding a projector or a display at the far end of a classroom, a lecture hall, a church, or a conference room from a rack in a closet, digital signage and video wall installs with the player hundreds of feet from the screens, broadcast studios and control rooms running 4K program feeds between rooms, home theater installers with the equipment rack in another part of the house, anyone who has tried an HDMI extender pair over Cat6 and lost 4:4:4 or HDR, and a job that already has the wall plates, the rack, and the conduit from the AV collections. For 35 to 75 ft and HDMI 2.1 at 48 Gbps, the HDMOAOC02 fiber optic cable; for runs under 25 ft, the HDMI01 ATC certified copper cable.

Good to Know

The cable is directional: the source end goes into the player, computer, or switcher and the display end goes into the projector or screen, and it will not pass a signal plugged in backward, so check which end is which before it goes into a conduit. It's an active optical cable, which means the connectors can't be cut off and re-terminated and the cable can't be shortened; order the length the run needs with slack at both ends, and at these lengths measure the actual cable path through the ceiling, not the distance across the room. There's glass inside the 4.6 mm jacket, so pull it with a pull sock or by taping over the connector rather than by the connector itself, keep the bend radius generous at every turn and in every wall box, don't kink it, and don't staple it. The connector electronics draw their power from the HDMI 5 V line, so a source with a weak port can need a powered splitter or a short copper cable at the source end; most do not. It's 18 Gbps HDMI 2.0, which is 4K/60 with HDR and not 4K/120 or 8K; those want the HDMOAOC02 at 48 Gbps. The LSZH jacket is the low-smoke part; it isn't a plenum rating, so a run through an air-handling space needs the local code checked. It's an indoor cable.
