Landing a wire on a screw terminal in a crowded switchboard is a job for a plier that can reach the terminal, hold the wire still while you form the loop, and trim and strip without a trip back to the pouch. The Jonard Tools JIC-203 Long Nose Switchboard Pliers are a 6-7/8 in general-use plier built around that sequence: a long nose that grips small wires and parts and reaches into tight spaces, cross-hatched knurled jaws that hold the wire without slipping while you bend the loop, side cutting blades with a 1/2 in cutter to trim it, and two stripping holes, for 19 AWG and 22 AWG, to strip the insulation with the same tool. Good to Know

Match the stripping hole to the wire; the 19 AWG hole is for 19 AWG and the 22 AWG hole for 22 AWG, and a wire pulled through the smaller hole gets nicked, which is where a loop breaks later. Strip by closing the hole on the insulation and pulling the wire straight out, not by twisting the plier. Form the loop around the nose in the direction the screw tightens, clockwise for a standard terminal, so the screw pulls the loop closed rather than open, and grip the wire near the end of the nose for a small loop or farther back for a larger one. Cut in the throat of the side cutter, close to the pivot, and keep the 1/2 in cutter for wire; it's not for screws or hardened material. The long nose is for reaching and gripping, not for twisting a stuck part, since the thin end bends before a stuck part gives. The dipped grips are for comfort and torque, not insulation, and this is not a rated insulated tool, so the circuit is dead before the pliers go in the panel. Chrome vanadium resists rust but doesn't ignore it; wipe the tool dry and oil the rivet now and then.
