LC/UPC to LC/APC Single Mode Fiber Patch Cable – 9/125 Duplex

This is the cord for the port pair that doesn't match. Single-mode gear comes with two connector polishes: UPC, the flat-polished blue connector on most switches, SFPs, and patch panels, and APC, the 8° angled green connector on PON OLTs, DWDM equipment, and passive optical splitters. They can't be plugged into each other without damage and a big loss. This cord has a UPC connector on one end and an APC on the other, so each end goes into the port it was made for, and the link between an angled OLT port and a flat SFP, or a DWDM mux and a switch, just works.

It's OS2 single-mode fiber, 9/125 µm, in a duplex zipcord for a transmit and receive pair, with LC connectors on both ends. Each cord is tested and the end-faces are checked by interferometer before it ships.

Where It Fits

It suits connecting a PON OLT's APC ports to a switch or router's UPC SFPs, patching DWDM and CWDM muxes to transceivers, cross-connecting between an APC-terminated outside plant panel and UPC equipment, FTTH head-end and MDU work, and any single-mode link where one end is green and the other is blue.

Good to Know

Match the connector to the port, not to the other end of the cord. The green APC end goes into green APC ports and the blue UPC end into blue UPC ports; plugging an APC connector into a UPC port, or the reverse, leaves an air gap at the ferrule face that costs several dB and can scratch the port. If both of your ports are the same color, you want a UPC-to-UPC or APC-to-APC cord instead. Keep dust caps on until the moment you plug in, and clean both the connector and the port with a one-click cleaner before mating; a fingerprint on a single-mode ferrule costs more than the whole cord's loss budget. For runs longer than 30 m, or where the cord will be pulled through a tray or conduit, ask about a 3.0 mm jacket or an OFNR-rated cable.
