A telecom tech cuts, strips, and crushes wire all day, and every time the job changes the tool usually does too. The Jonard Tools JIC-7858 Telecom Diagonal Cutting Pliers put all three on one 6-1/4 in side cutter so the pouch stays closed. The tapered nose carries standard bevel knives with induction-hardened edges for a clean cut every time, two stripping holes in the jaw handle the two sizes that matter, 0.030 in for 22 AWG and 0.045 in for 18 AWG, two V-shaped stripping notches on the edges take the sizes between, and a crusher rounds out the jaw for multi-purpose wire work. To strip, close the jaws on the wire in the matching hole and pull the wire through. The pliers are polished chrome vanadium steel, heat treated for strength, with cushioned, dipped plastic grips for comfort and torque. Meets ASME B107.11 and ISO 5749, with a lifetime warranty.
Features
- 0.030 in and 0.045 in stripping holes. Strip 22 AWG and 18 AWG wire by closing the jaws in the matching hole and pulling the wire through.
- Two V-shaped stripping notches and a crusher. Multi-purpose wire work on the same jaw.
- Tapered nose with standard bevel knives. Induction-hardened edges for a clean cut every time.
- Polished chrome vanadium steel. Heat treated for maximum strength and durability.
- Cushioned, dipped plastic grips. Comfort and torque in the hand.
- ASME B107.11 and ISO 5749. Meets the pliers and cutters standards.
- Lifetime warranty.
Where It Fits
It suits telecom technicians cutting and stripping 22 AWG cross-connect and jumper wire at blocks and frames, inside wiring techs working 18 AWG and 22 AWG station, alarm, and thermostat wire, structured cabling installers who want a diagonal cutter with a stripper built in for the odd conductor at a panel, controls and security techs stripping a mixed bag of small wire in a can, bench and repair work that needs a cutter, a stripper, and a crusher within reach, anyone who has carried three tools for a one-tool job, and a pouch that already has the JIC-891 or JIC-22148 crimper for the splices and the JIC-203 or JIC-21257 long nose for the terminals. For a flush cut that leaves no point, the JIC-2755; for the heavy cuts, the JIC-683 lineman's pliers.
Good to Know
Match the stripping hole to the wire; 0.030 in is for 22 AWG and 0.045 in for 18 AWG, and a wire pulled through the smaller hole gets nicked, which is where it breaks later. Close the jaws on the insulation in the hole and pull the wire straight through rather than twisting the plier, and use the V-notches for the sizes the holes don't fit, judging the notch by eye against the conductor. The bevel knives leave a small point on the cut end, which is normal for a diagonal cutter; where the end has to be flat, the JIC-2755 flush cutter is the tool. Cut in the throat of the jaw, close to the pivot, and keep the knives for wire; a screw, a nail, or hardened material chips induction-hardened edges rather than dulling them. The crusher is for flattening a conductor or a connector, not for turning a nut, where it rounds the corners. The dipped grips are for comfort and torque, not insulation, and this is not a rated insulated tool, so the circuit is dead before the pliers go in the box. Polished chrome vanadium resists rust but doesn't ignore it; wipe the tool dry and oil the joint now and then.
