The Jonard Tools JIC-21257 Telecom Long Nose Pliers are a 6-7/8 in plier made for that frame work: a thin, knurled nose that grips and routes 22 AWG wire at the terminal without disturbing its neighbors, side cutting edges with a 1/2 in cutter to trim the conductor, and a 0.030 in stripping hole that strips 22 AWG wire without a second tool. The pliers are heat-treated chrome vanadium steel with induction-hardened cutting edges that stay sharp through a career of cross-connect wire, and the ergonomic handle has a dipped plastic grip for comfort and torque. Good to Know

The 0.030 in hole is sized for 22 AWG; close it on the insulation and pull the wire straight out rather than twisting the plier, since a nicked conductor is where a jumper breaks later. The thin nose is the point of the tool and also its limit: it reaches between pins because it's slender, so use it to grip and route wire, not to twist a stuck part or pry a connector, where a thin nose bends. Cut in the throat of the side cutter, close to the pivot, and keep the 1/2 in cutter for wire; it's not for screws or hardened material, and induction-hardened edges chip rather than dull when they're abused. Frame work is close work, so a dropped wire end goes somewhere you can't see it; trim over a hand or a tray. The dipped grip is for comfort and torque, not insulation, and this is not a rated insulated tool, so keep it off live pairs and out of anything carrying ringing current. Chrome vanadium resists rust but doesn't ignore it; wipe the tool dry and oil the joint now and then.
