A fiber distribution point at an apartment building or a strip mall has to keep the weather out, keep the subscribers out, and let the installer in without disturbing the splices every time a unit is turned up. This indoor/outdoor wall-mount fiber demarcation box does all three: a rugged white plastic enclosure, 12.60 in tall by 10.24 in wide and 3.55 in deep, rated IP65 against dust and water jets, with a flip-up cover and a cam lock with key, and a multi-layer interior that puts the adapter field on one layer and the fixed splice tray on another, so turning up a subscriber means opening the adapter layer and nothing more. It holds 16 simplex SC adapters, or 16 duplex LC adapters in the same footprint, and splices 16 fibers on the integrated tray with integrated fiber management for the slack, which makes it the low-cost demarcation and distribution box between the central office feeder and the units of an FTTx build. Wall-mount hardware is included, and the WMFP-008 pole mount straps, sold separately, put it on a pole. Adapters and pigtails are sold separately. For the IP66 black version of the same 16-port box, the WMFP-005.

What's in the Box

Where It Fits

It suits FTTH and FTTB operators placing a distribution point on the outside wall of a multi-dwelling unit where up to 16 subscriber drops meet the feeder, FTTC and campus builds putting a locked fiber box on a pole or a pedestal, CATV operators terminating a fiber node feed at a building, MDU and commercial installers who want the splices sealed away from the technician doing turn-ups, anyone who has had a subscriber open an unlocked box or had rain find an indoor one, and a job that already has the SC or LC adapters, the pigtails, and the outdoor drop cable from the fiber and bulk collections to fill it. For the same 16 adapters and 16 splices in an IP66 black PC+ABS box, the WMFP-005; for 4 adapters, the WMFP-004; for a single drop, the WMFP-009; for the pole, the WMFP-008 straps.

Good to Know

Adapters and pigtails are not included, so order the 16 SC simplex or LC duplex adapters and the pigtails for the connector type at the same time; 16 LC duplex is 32 fiber positions against 16 splices, so plan the adapter count around the splices, and if the plant is PON the adapters and pigtails should be APC. The IP65 rating is for the closed, locked box with the cable entries sealed; an entry left open or a gland left loose is where the water gets in, so seal every entry, mount the box with the entries down and a drip loop in each cable, and close the cam lock every time. IP65 is water jets, not the powerful jets of IP66, so on a wall that gets pressure-washed or a pole in driving rain the WMFP-005 is the one to pick; sheltered outdoor walls and indoor entries are where this box is the better buy. Route the feeder in with strain relief at the entry so the splices never carry tension, keep every buffer tube and pigtail within its bend radius, and use the integrated management for the slack. Work the layers as designed: splice on the tray layer at installation, then turn up subscribers from the adapter layer without reopening the tray. The sixteen sleeves in the box are one per splice; keep spares on the truck. The pole mount straps are a separate part; the included hardware is for a wall. It's a plastic enclosure, and the cover and lock get brittle in the cold. Keep caps on unused adapters, and keep the key where the next technician can find it.
