The Jonard Tools TK-375 pairs the fiber stripper with electrician's scissors, for the technician whose day has copper in it as well as glass. The JIC-375 three-hole stripper takes a fiber from its 1.6 to 3 mm jacket through the 600 to 900 µm buffer and the 250 µm coating down to the 125 µm glass; the ES-1964 electrician's scissors are the heavy-duty pair, with two stripping notches for small-gauge wire and a file on the back of one blade. The H-36 molded pouch holds one in each pocket, blades covered, and its metal belt clip attaches to any belt, so the stripper and the scissors are on your hip rather than at the bottom of the bag. It's the TK-350 with scissors in place of the Kevlar shears, for the tech who'd rather carry the tool that also strips a 22 AWG conductor.
What's in the Kit
- JIC-375 three-hole fiber optic stripper. Strips the 1.6 to 3 mm fiber jacket, the 600 to 900 µm buffer coating, and the 250 µm coating to expose the 125 µm glass fiber.
- ES-1964 electrician's scissors. Built for heavy-duty use, with two stripping notches and a file on the back of one of the blades.
- H-36 molded two-pocket tool pouch. Keeps the tools safe and secure, with a metal belt clip that attaches to any belt.
Where It Fits
It suits technicians who work fiber and copper in the same closet, where the scissors strip the pairs on a voice or alarm cable and the stripper takes care of the fiber, FTTH and MDU installers finishing drops at the terminal and the ONT, data center and enterprise staff who prep a fiber now and then and want a general-purpose cutter beside it, aerial and outside plant crews working from a bucket where a dropped tool is a lost tool, and anyone who already owns Kevlar shears and wants the stripper with a different second tool.
Good to Know
Strip in stages with the three-hole stripper, jacket, then buffer, then coating, matching the fiber to the right hole, and take the coating off in short pulls rather than one long one so the glass isn't scored; a scratched fiber breaks at the splice or the connector, not in your hand. Keep the stripper's holes clean, since coating residue builds up and starts to drag. The scissors are the heavy-duty electrician's pattern: the two notches strip small-gauge wire, and the file on the back of the blade cleans a conductor or touches up a burr. They'll cut a Kevlar strength member in a pinch, but Kevlar dulls scissors quickly, so a technician who opens a lot of fiber jackets is better served by the JIC-186 shears in the TK-350, which are made for it. Both tools are sharp, which is why they live in the pouch rather than loose in a pocket; the molded pouch holds its shape and wipes clean, and the clip goes on and off a belt without unthreading it. The pouch is sized for these two tools and won't take a cleaver. This kit is the prep basics only; the cleaver, the connector cleaners, the slitters for larger cable, and the test gear come from the larger kits.
