Two tools do most of a fiber technician's hand work, and the Jonard Tools TK-355 puts them on your belt: the JIC-375 three-hole stripper, which takes a fiber from its 1.6 to 3 mm jacket through the 600 to 900 µm buffer and the 250 µm coating down to the 125 µm glass, and the JIC-186 shears, which cut the Kevlar strength member, cable insulation, tape, and cable ties that an ordinary pair of cutters gives up on. The H-45 leather pouch holds one in each pocket, blades covered, and attaches to any belt up to 2 in wide, so the two tools you reach for at every splice closure, distribution frame, and drop are on your hip rather than at the bottom of the bag.

What's in the Kit

Where It Fits

It suits fusion splicing technicians who want the stripper and the shears on the belt beside the splicer, FTTH and MDU installers finishing drops at the terminal and the ONT, data center and enterprise staff who prep a fiber now and then and want the two tools together, aerial and outside plant crews working from a bucket where a dropped tool is a lost tool, and anyone building a fiber kit a piece at a time who wants to start with the two that matter most.

Good to Know

Strip in stages with the three-hole stripper, jacket, then buffer, then coating, matching the fiber to the right hole, and take the coating off in short pulls rather than one long one so the glass isn't scored; a scratched fiber breaks at the splice or the connector, not in your hand. Keep the stripper's holes clean, since coating residue builds up and starts to drag. Kevlar dulls ordinary cutters fast, and the shears are built for it; keep the strength member to the base of the blades where the leverage is, and don't use them on wire heavier than the jacket they're meant for. Both tools are sharp, which is why they live in the pouch rather than loose in a pocket. The leather will darken and soften with use, which is normal, and the pouch is sized for these two tools; it won't take a cleaver. This kit is the prep basics only; the cleaver, the connector cleaners, the slitters for larger cable, and the test gear are in the TK-121, TK-161, TK-151, and TK-184 kits, which all carry these same two tools.
