It opens standard jackets and light armored cable, and when the blade dulls it swaps for a FOR-3000RB1 replacement rather than taking the tool out of service.

Good to Know

Check the cable's outside diameter before the first cut; the tool is sized for 9 mm to 19 mm, and a cable below that won't be held square to the blade while one above it won't close in the tool. Open the hinge, seat the cable, and close the tool around it; for a mid-span entry, make the ring cuts at each end of the opening first, then the slit between them, and peel the jacket in sections. Set the blade depth to the jacket on a scrap or on the cable end before a live cut, since the aim is to cut the jacket and nothing underneath, and on light armored cable check that the cut has cleared the armor without reaching the inner jacket or the buffer tubes. Keep the tool square to the cable on the slit stroke so the cut runs straight rather than spiraling. Cut armor is sharp; wear gloves, and watch the jacket edges when you peel. When the blade starts to drag rather than cut, fit a FOR-3000RB1 rather than pressing harder, which is when a blade wanders. Heavy armor and cable above 19 mm are a job for the CableSaber AST-200, and small cable below 9 mm for the CSR-1575 or the MS-series mid-span tools.
