Connector contamination is the leading cause of fiber link failures, and the connectors that fail most are the ones a basic cleaning kit can't reach: multifiber MPO end-faces with 12 or 24 fibers in a row, duplex jumpers, and recessed ports in high-density panels. The Jonard Tools TK-287 Fiber Optic Cleaning Kit+ is the complete kit for a technician who works across all of them. It covers LC, MU, SC, ST, FC, and MPO connectors, on the cable end and inside the port, with both dry and wet methods: two push cleaners for 1.25 mm and 2.5 mm ferrules, an MPO push cleaner whose nose extends to reach a recessed adapter, a universal cassette cleaner for jumper ends, and, when a dry pass isn't enough, FCF-3 cleaning fluid and DW-90 lint-free wipes for a wet-to-dry clean of oils and stubborn residue. Everything travels in one H-20 case with loops for a carabiner or a belt.
What's in the Kit
- FCC-120 MPO fiber connector cleaner. One push cleans 12- and 24-fiber MPO end-faces, UPC or APC, pinned or unpinned, and the nose extends up to 4 in to reach recessed adapters in high-density panels. Over 500 cleanings.
- FCC-300 universal fiber connector cleaner. One swipe across the cassette cleans FC, SC, ST, LC, and MU end-faces on simplex and duplex jumpers, PC or APC, and the tape advances a fresh surface every time. Over 500 cleanings.
- FCC-125 fiber connector cleaner, 1.25 mm. Single-push cleaning of LC and MU ferrules, on the cable end and inside bulkhead adapters. Over 800 cleanings.
- FCC-250 fiber connector cleaner, 2.5 mm. Single-push cleaning of SC, ST, and FC ferrules, on the cable end and inside bulkhead adapters. Over 800 cleanings.
- FCF-3 fiber optic splice and connector cleaner. Quick-drying, static-dissipative cleaning fluid for the wet-to-dry method, more than 650 cleanings per 3 oz can.
- DW-90 dry wipes. Lint-free wipes for the wet-to-dry clean and for wiping a bare fiber or jacket.
- H-20 rugged carrying case. Keeps the set together, with loops on the top and side for a carabiner or a belt.
Where It Fits
It suits data center technicians working MPO trunks and high-density LC cassettes, central office and headend staff cleaning ports in panels where the adapter sits well back from the face, enterprise network teams who see every connector type across a campus, outside plant and FTTH techs cleaning SC and LC connectors at closures, cabinets, and ONTs, and anyone who has traced a flapping link to a dirty end-face and wants the tool for every connector on the job in one case.
Good to Know
Clean before every mating, and inspect if you can; a connector that looked clean when it came off the reel has been in a pocket since. Start dry: one push on the FCC-125, FCC-250, or FCC-120, or one swipe across the FCC-300, is the normal clean. Step up to wet-to-dry only when a dry pass leaves residue, since too much fluid is its own contaminant: press a DW-90 wipe onto the FCF-3 cap to wet a spot, then draw the end-face from the wet spot across the dry area in one motion so it leaves the wipe dry. Match the cleaner to the ferrule, 1.25 mm for LC and MU, 2.5 mm for SC, ST, and FC, and the MPO cleaner for MPO only; the wrong push cleaner won't seat and can scuff the end-face. The push cleaners work inside a bulkhead adapter as well as on a plug, which is where most of the dirt is, and the MPO cleaner's extending nose is for the adapters you can't reach with a plug-end cleaner. An APC end-face is angled, so keep the cleaner square to it rather than to the connector body. The cleaning counts are the makers' figures for the cassettes and the can, and the wipes are a consumable; stock refills for all three before a big job. Never clean a live fiber; power it down or disconnect it at the far end first, and never look into an end-face to check it.
