Fiber that runs in duct has to be got at through the duct, and the Jonard Tools TK-260 is the set of tools for that: cutting, scoring, ringing, and slitting microduct, larger fiber duct, and the tubing and heavy cable around them, so a damaged fiber can be repaired or replaced without wrecking the duct it lives in. Three microduct cutters, the MDC-14, MDC-28, and MDC-64, cover duct up to 14, 28, and 64 mm and use triangular blades that hold the tube in place while they cut, so the end comes out square and straight for a coupler. The FS-1416 scores and rings 14/10 and 16/10 thick-walled microduct without any adjustment. The TC-300 tube cutter makes radial cuts on copper, brass, aluminum, and plastic tube from 1/4 to 3 in. The RCS-30 ratcheting slitter makes mid-span slits and window cuts in large ducts and heavy-duty cable. Six tools in a 21-pocket case, for the duct side of a fiber repair.

What's in the Kit

• Microduct cutters. MDC-14 microduct tube cutter (up to 9/16 in, 14 mm), MDC-28 microduct cutter (up to 1.1 in, 28 mm), and MDC-64 large fiber duct cutter (up to 2.52 in, 64 mm). Triangular blades hold the tubing in place and give a square, straight cut that seats properly in a coupler.
• FS-1416 thick-walled microduct scoring tool, 5 to 16 mm. Scores and rings 14/10 and 16/10 fiber optic microducts with no adjustment to the tool.
• TC-300 tube cutter, 1/4 to 3 in (6.3 to 76 mm). Radial cuts on copper, brass, aluminum, and plastic tubes.
• RCS-30 ratcheting duct and cable slitter. Mid-span slits and window cuts in large ducts and heavy-duty cables, with a ratcheting design that works the blade through a thick wall in stages.
• H-90 rugged 21-pocket tool case. A pocket for every tool, so a missing one shows before you leave the site.

Where It Fits

It suits blown-fiber and microduct installers cutting and coupling duct at the hand hole, the cabinet, and the building entry, outside plant crews repairing or replacing a fiber in an existing duct run, FTTH work on microduct bundles where every tube end has to be square for the coupler to seal, data center and campus teams opening large innerduct for a mid-span entry or a window cut, and a contractor who wants the duct tools in their own case rather than scattered through the fiber bag.

Good to Know

A blown-fiber coupler seals on the outside of the duct and needs a square, burr-free end to do it, which is why the microduct cutters hold the tube rather than letting it roll; use the cutter sized for the duct, and cut with one firm stroke rather than sawing. Scoring tools like the FS-1416 cut partway through the wall so the duct snaps clean when flexed; score, flex, and pull rather than cutting all the way around, and check the fiber or sub-ducts inside aren't in the blade's path first. The TC-300 is a plumber's-style tube cutter and works on rigid tube; on soft plastic duct it can oval the end, so the microduct cutters are the better choice there. A window cut with the RCS-30 opens a length of duct or sheath without cutting the fibers or sub-ducts inside, but set the blade depth on a scrap before the first live cut, since the wall thickness varies between duct types. None of these tools cut, strip, or cleave fiber itself; the TK-107 and TK-107B carry the cable-entry tools and the TK-151 the fiber prep tools, and this kit is the duct layer that sits before them. Confirm what's in a duct before you open it, since a hybrid run can carry power as well as fiber. The loaded case weighs about 8 lb.
