Duplex connectors in a dense panel are the hardest to get a grip on, and the Jonard Tools FCT-100 is built for them: a connector insertion and extraction tool with bent-nose jaws that reach over the neighboring connectors to pull or seat simplex or duplex LC and SC connectors in a high-density patch panel. The same jaws handle MU, MT-RJ, and other connectors of similar shape. Rubber-protected jaw faces grip the connector body securely without marking or crushing it, and a spring-loaded design with dual-component thermoplastic rubber grips opens the jaws after every grip and keeps the tool comfortable and under control through a long session of moves, adds, and changes.

Good to Know

Grip the connector body, not the boot: pulling by the boot stresses the fiber at the strain relief, and the body is where the rubber jaw faces are meant to hold. On an LC, the latch has to be pressed to release, so close the jaws on the body and the latch together; on an SC, the push-pull body releases when it's pulled straight. Pull straight out along the axis of the port and push straight in until the latch clicks, then release the jaws before you let go, since a connector levered sideways in a dense panel is how the next one over gets unseated or its latch broken. The bent nose is for reaching over the neighbors; for a simplex LC in the tightest bulkhead, the straight thin-nose FCT-200 may get in where this one can't, and the two tools are often carried together. Keep the rubber faces clean of alcohol and gel, and replace the tool if they harden or tear, since the rubber is what makes the grip safe. Clean the end face after every removal and before every insertion, because a connector that's been out of a port has been exposed, and never look into a port or a connector on a live link.
