CAT6 RJ45 Shielded EZ Pass-Through Connector – with External Ground Tab (PLG-EZ45-C6S)
Couldn't load pickup availability
This is a shielded pass-through RJ45 plug for Cat6 cable, with an external ground tab. It fits solid or stranded cable with a jacket up to 0.280 in (7.11 mm) and conductors insulated up to 0.041 in (1.04 mm). The eight conductors go in the back of the plug and out the front, so you check the color order by eye before the crimp tool trims them flush and closes the contacts. It's the patented EZ-RJ45 design in its shielded form: one clear piece, no load bar, no liner, a shield shell around the housing, and a ground tab on the outside that crimps onto the cable's shield and drain wire. The contacts are 2-prong with 50 µin of gold, and because the plug pulls down over the jacket and seats against it, the untwisted length between the last twist and the contacts stays as short as it can be. It meets Cat6 performance per ANSI/TIA-568-B.2, it's UL rated and FCC compliant, and it comes in packs of 50 and 100. For unshielded Cat6 cable, the PLG-EZ45-C6U; for a shielded pass-through plug with a strain relief bar for cable under 6.5 mm, the PLG-R45-CAT6-ESS.
Features
- Pass-through. Conductors extend out the front of the plug so the wiring order is verified before the crimp.
- Shielded, with external ground tab. The tab crimps onto the cable's shield and drain wire for a bond you can see.
- For solid or stranded Cat6. Cable OD up to 0.280 in (7.11 mm); conductor insulation up to 0.041 in (1.04 mm).
- One-piece design. No bars or liners; clear housing.
- Seats over the jacket. Shortens the untwisted length between the pairs and the contacts.
- 50 µin gold-plated contacts. 8P8C, 2 prong.
- Cat6 performance per ANSI/TIA-568-B.2. UL rated, FCC compliant.
- Packs of 50 and 100.
Where It Fits
It suits structured cabling crews terminating shielded Cat6 to plugs in a plant that runs S/FTP or F/UTP end to end and wanting every termination checked before it's committed, data center and network techs making shielded patch cords to length and tired of cutting off plugs with two conductors swapped, industrial and plant networks that shield against the VFDs and the welders, broadcast and AV racks where the Ethernet runs beside power and audio, anyone who has crimped a shielded plug and had to take it on faith that the shell found the drain wire, and a job that already has the shielded bulk Cat6, an EZ-RJ45 pass-through crimp tool, the FOIL-001 copper strips, and the shielded keystone jacks from the copper collections. For the jacks at the other end of the cord, the KEY6-SHD and MIG6A-SHD; for the boot, the BOT-R45-68 for cable up to 6.8 mm or the BOT-OVR-75 for cable up to 7.5 mm; for unshielded cable, the PLG-EZ45-C6U; for the shielded Quick-Feed plug for cable under 6.5 mm, the PLG-R45-CAT6-ESS.
Good to Know
A pass-through plug needs a pass-through crimp tool, the kind with a blade at the front of the die that shears the conductors flush with the plug face as it crimps, and a shielded one needs a die that closes the ground tab too. A standard RJ45 tool closes the contacts but leaves the ends sticking out, where they short against each other or the jack's shield. Check the face after every crimp and make sure no copper stands proud. Measure the cable before ordering: this plug is for conductors insulated to 1.04 mm or less and a jacket up to 7.11 mm, which covers most shielded Cat6; shielded Cat6A with conductors over 1.04 mm won't feed through. A shielded plug only shields if the shell is bonded to the cable's shield and the jack at the other end is shielded too, so fold the foil or braid back over the jacket, lay the drain wire along it, and crimp the external ground tab onto both; then use shielded jacks and patch panels throughout, since one unshielded link in the chain turns the shield into an antenna. The tab is on the outside of the shell, so you can see the bond is made instead of trusting what happened inside the plug; a wrap of FOIL-001 copper strip under the tab gives it solid copper to crimp onto. Bond the shield at one end only unless the two ends share a ground. Strip the jacket, untwist only as much as it takes to lay the eight conductors flat in T568B order, feed them through until the jacket is inside the plug's rear, confirm the order on the far side, then crimp. The boot goes on the cable before the plug, not after.
