CAT6A RJ45 Shielded ezEX48 Connector – Pass-Through with External Ground Tab (PLG-EZ45-C6-48)

This is a shielded pass-through RJ45 plug for Cat6 and Cat6A cable with the largest conductors, with an external ground tab. It fits solid or stranded cable whose conductors are insulated to 0.043 to 0.048 in (1.09 to 1.21 mm), under a jacket below 7.75 mm. The eight conductors go in the back of the plug and out the front, so you check the color order by eye before the crimp tool trims them flush and closes the contacts. The channels are staggered high and low, so the thick conductors each sit in their own slot. It's the ezEX48 design in its shielded form: one clear piece, no bars or liners, a shield shell around the housing, and a ground tab on the outside that crimps onto the cable's shield and drain wire. It's rated for 10 Gigabit performance, it's RoHS 2, UL, TIA, TAA, and FCC compliant, and it comes in packs of 25 and 50. Good to Know

A pass-through plug needs a pass-through crimp tool, the kind with a blade at the front of the die that shears the conductors flush with the plug face as it crimps, and a shielded one with an external tab needs a die that closes the tab too. A standard RJ45 tool closes the contacts but leaves the ends sticking out, where they short against each other or the jack's shield. Check the face after every crimp and make sure no copper stands proud. Measure the conductor before ordering, since the ezEX sizes overlap in name and not in fit: this plug is for insulation of 1.09 to 1.21 mm, the ezEX44 takes 0.99 to 1.11 mm, and the ezEX38 takes 0.84 to 0.97 mm, so a conductor under 1.09 mm sits loose in these channels and a sample measured with calipers settles it. The jacket must be under 7.75 mm; thicker shielded cable wants a crimp plug such as the PLG-R45-CT6AS at 8.0 mm. A shielded plug only shields if the shell is bonded to the cable's shield and the jack at the other end is shielded too, so fold the foil or braid back over the jacket, lay the drain wire along it, and crimp the external ground tab onto both; then use shielded jacks and patch panels throughout, since one unshielded link in the chain turns the shield into an antenna. The tab is on the outside of the shell, so you can see the bond is made instead of trusting what happened inside the plug; a wrap of FOIL-001 copper strip under the tab gives it solid copper to crimp onto. Bond the shield at one end only unless the two ends share a ground. Strip the jacket, untwist only as much as it takes to lay the eight conductors flat in T568B order, feed them through the staggered channels until the jacket seats in the rear of the plug, confirm the order on the far side, then crimp. The boot goes on the cable before the plug, not after.
