6-in-1 Crimping Tool for RJ45 Pass-through & RJ11/12 Modular (UC-4569)

Pass-through plugs take the guesswork out of an RJ45: the conductors go all the way through the plug and out the front, so you can see the color order and feel each wire bottomed out before you commit. The catch is that the ends then have to be cut off flush with the plug face, and a standard crimper can't do that. This Jonard tool can. One squeeze seats the eight contact blades and trims the protruding conductors flush in the same stroke, and the ratchet holds until the crimp is complete, so a pass-through termination is a single motion rather than a crimp and a careful trim. The same tool crimps ordinary 8-position RJ45 and 6-position RJ11 and RJ12 plugs, and 4-position handset plugs, on Cat3, Cat5, Cat5e, and Cat6 cable, flat or round, solid or stranded, from 22 to 28 AWG, and it cuts and strips the cable before you start.

Where It Fits

It suits terminating Cat5e and Cat6 pass-through plugs on patch cords and field drops, standard RJ45 plugs on the same cable, RJ11 and RJ12 phone plugs on flat and round cord, handset cords, small-office and residential network installs where the installer wants to confirm the wire order before crimping, camera and access point drops terminated on site, and any installer who has switched to pass-through plugs and needs the one tool that finishes them properly.

Good to Know

Pass-through plugs are only as good as the trim: a conductor left proud of the plug face can short to its neighbour in the jack or hold the plug off its stop, so check that the face is flush and clean after each crimp, and replace the blade set when the cut starts to leave burrs or fold the conductor ends over rather than shearing them. The tool crimps standard plugs too; on those, the conductors stop inside the plug and the trimming blades have nothing to cut, which is fine. Match the plug to the cable: solid-conductor plugs for solid cable, stranded-conductor plugs for stranded, and the plug's category to the cable's conductor diameter, since a Cat6 plug on 23 AWG solid is a different part from a Cat5e plug on 24 AWG. It's for standard-size plugs; large-diameter Cat6A cable and shielded plugs with a metal strain relief need the shielded Cat6A crimp tool. Keep the pair untwist short, which pass-through makes easier because you can feed the pairs straight through and pull the slack out before you crimp, and leave enough jacket inside the plug for the strain relief to grip. The stripper is set for ordinary round network cable and flat cord; on a thick or oval jacket, score and flex rather than forcing it.
