A CATV service call is the same handful of jobs at every address: strip the coax, put on the right F connector, torque it, check the line, and find the cable in the first place. The Jonard Tools TK-87 COAX Tool Kit is that handful in a seven-pocket pouch. At the center is the CTF-230 Dual Compression Tool, which does short style F connectors such as the PPC EX6 on one side of its plunger and long style connectors such as the EX6XL on the other, with a rotatable head for RG6 or RG11; around it are the UST-125 stripper for RG59, RG6, RG7, and RG11, the TWAF-71630 7/16 in torque wrench that tightens every connector to 30 in-lb and no more, the PT-300 pocket continuity tester and toner with voltage detection, 8 in high leverage diagonal cutters, a 6-in-1 multi-bit screwdriver, and an LED flashlight with a zoom lens. Each tool has a pocket in the molded H-85 pouch, and the whole kit is under four pounds.

What's in the Kit

  • CTF-230 Dual Compression Tool. Short and long style F connectors, including PPC EX6 and EX6XL and most RG11 connectors; green plunger side for short, blue for long, rotatable head for RG6 or RG11, no adjustments.
  • UST-125 COAX Stripping Tool. Strips RG59, RG6, RG7, and RG11 for the connector.
  • TWAF-71630 F Connector Torque Wrench. Full head, 7/16 in, 30 in-lb, so every F connector is tight enough to seal and not tight enough to strip.
  • PT-300 Pocket Continuity Tester and Toner. Continuity check, tone for tracing a cable, and voltage detection before you touch a line.
  • JIC-2288 High Leverage Diagonal Cutting Pliers, 8 in. Cuts coax, zip ties, and wire to length.
  • SD-61 6-in-1 Multi-Bit Screwdriver. Phillips and slotted tips for wall plates, ground blocks, and splitter screws.
  • FL-2000 LED Flashlight with Zoom Lens. For the crawlspace, the attic, and the back of the TV.
  • H-85 Molded 7-Pocket Tool Pouch. A pocket for each tool, so what's missing shows before you leave the site.

Where It Fits

It suits CATV and broadband service technicians doing repairs, swaps, and new drops on the same route, contractors starting out who need a matched coax set from one maker rather than a drawer of odds and ends, MDU and commercial techs who meet RG11 trunk and RG6 drops in the same building, satellite and antenna installers working short connectors indoors and long connectors at the weather-exposed end, companies outfitting new hires with a kit that covers the whole F-connector workflow, and anyone who has the compression tool but keeps borrowing the torque wrench. For hardline work beyond the drop, the HSC-50 coring tool and the JIC-750 cutter are the next tools up.

Good to Know

The order of work is the order of the pouch: check the line for voltage with the PT-300 before cutting anything, since a drop can carry power to an amplifier, then cut, strip to the connector maker's dimensions with the UST-125, compress with the CTF-230 using the plunger side and head position that match the connector and the cable, and finish with the torque wrench rather than pliers, because a 7/16 in F connector tightened past 30 in-lb strips the port and one left finger-tight lets water in. Set the CTF-230's plunger and head before the first connector of a job (green for short, blue for long; pull, rotate, reinsert) and confirm the connector is on the tool's compatibility list; a finished connector should have a fully driven sleeve, a straight center conductor standing proud of the face, and no play on the cable. The PT-300 checks continuity and finds a cable with its tone; it isn't a signal level meter, and a line that passes continuity can still be out of spec. The diagonal cutters are for cable and wire, not for screws or steel strand. Keep the strip dimensions card for the connectors you use in the pouch; the tools are fixed, so the prep is what varies between connector brands.
