A camera or a hook on the end of a floppy rod goes roughly where you point it; on a rigid pole it goes exactly where you point it. The Jonard Tools CFP-60 is a 5 ft telescoping aluminum pole built for that control: tapered interlocking tubes that extend a full 5 ft and collapse to 10.5 in, stiff enough that the telescoping action is considerably stronger than a coil or other rod-based product, so the head doesn't wander when you're reaching into a drop ceiling. A built-in groove keeps the tubes from rotating in use, which keeps an attachment head pointed where you set it, and the standard 1/4-20 thread on the end takes the CF-200 WiSpy® camera and most other accessories. The grip is ergonomic and non-slip, the pole weighs five ounces, and it's the pole supplied with the CF-200 kit, sold here on its own as a spare or for a second camera. Lifetime warranty.

Good to Know

Extend the tubes from the largest to the smallest and seat each one firmly so the taper locks; a section that's only half extended is the one that slips under load. Line up the groove when you extend, since that's what stops the head from rotating, and a head that turns on you means a tube isn't engaged in it. The 1/4-20 thread is the same as a camera tripod mount, so most inspection cameras, hooks, magnets, and light heads fit, but check that an accessory's thread is 1/4-20 and not 3/8-16 before forcing it. Aluminum is rigid for its weight, not strong against a bend, so use the pole to position and push a camera or a cable, not to pry, lever, or hang on; a bent tube won't collapse again. Keep it away from overhead power and treat any ceiling as live until proven otherwise; aluminum conducts, and 5 ft of it is a reach into a lot of ceiling. Collapse it fully before it goes in the bag so the small tubes don't get knocked, and wipe the tubes dry after a wet job so grit doesn't score the tapers.
