Cat6A Riser Bulk Cable – S/FTP, 23 AWG Solid, CMR, 1000 ft

This is the Cat6A for 10G runs where the interference is severe or the bundle is dense: a hospital riser beside imaging suites, a factory tray next to variable-frequency drives, a data center backbone packed forty cables to a J-hook. Each of the four pairs is wrapped in its own aluminum-mylar foil, and a tinned copper braid with 65% coverage surrounds all four (S/FTP). The per-pair foil takes crosstalk between the cable's own pairs almost out of the picture and blocks high-frequency noise; the braid handles the low-frequency fields from power distribution and heavy machinery and gives the shield a low-resistance path to ground. The PVC jacket is CMR riser rated.

The 23 AWG solid copper conductors are full gauge for the lowest loss over a full 100 m channel. It comes on a 1000 ft wooden spool with footage markings on the jacket.

Where It Fits

It suits 10G risers and horizontal runs in hospitals and imaging centers, manufacturing plants with drives, welders, and large motors, data center backbones and high-density trays, broadcast and AV facilities, labs with sensitive instruments, and any permanent link where a foil-only shielded Cat6A hasn't been clean enough.

Good to Know

A shield only works when it's grounded. Terminate this cable on shielded Cat6A jacks and patch panels that bond to the braid, ground it at one end, normally the patch panel, and use shielded patch cords and switch ports so the shield is continuous end to end. Terminating S/FTP takes longer than F/UTP: each pair's foil has to be stripped back and the braid folded and clamped, so allow for it in the labor estimate. CMR covers risers and general indoor spaces but not plenum air-handling ceilings. S/FTP Cat6A is the stiffest copper cable in the line; plan for a bend radius of about four times the cable diameter, and check that your cable managers and J-hooks have the room. For moderate interference, the foil-only shielded Cat6A riser does the job for less and terminates faster. Solid conductors are for permanent runs; terminate on jacks and patch panels, not crimped plugs.
