Ten Gigabit over copper is a 500 MHz signal running next to other 500 MHz signals, and alien crosstalk from the cable in the next bundle is what limits it; a shielded jack is where the shield meets the plug. This Cat6A shielded keystone jack is component rated for 10GBASE-T to 100 m: a nickel-plated zinc die-cast housing that carries the cable shield through to the plug and screens the termination from EMI and alien crosstalk, on an FR4 PCB with phosphor bronze IDC contacts and 50 microinch gold on the plug contacts. It terminates from the rear at 180 degrees, so the cable comes straight in with no bend behind the plate, on 110 and Krone compatible IDCs that take a standard punch-down blade or, with the IDC cap, close by hand with no tool at all. The pair-keeping design holds each pair twisted to the contact, the T568A and T568B color codes are printed on the jack, and it takes solid or stranded 23 to 26 AWG. It's rated for PoE++ at 100 W under 802.3bt, 750 mating cycles, and ANSI/TIA-568.2-D, and it's UL Listed. For Cat6 shielded runs, the KEY6-SHD is the economy shielded jack.

Features

  • Cat6A, component rated for 10G to 100 m. ANSI/TIA-568.2-D performance through the jack, not just the channel.
  • Nickel-plated zinc die-cast shielded housing. Carries the cable shield through and screens the jack against EMI and alien crosstalk.
  • 180 degree rear termination. Cable enters straight from behind, for shallow boxes and high-density panels; slim profile.
  • 110 and Krone punch down, or tool-less. Takes either punch-down blade, or closes with the IDC cap and no tool.
  • Pair-keeping design. Holds the pairs twisted to the IDC for the untwist 10G needs.
  • PoE++ ready. 802.3bt 4PPoE up to 100 W.
  • Gold-plated plug contacts, phosphor bronze IDCs. 50 µin gold over nickel; 750 mating cycles minimum; 7.7 kg plug retention.
  • Solid and stranded 23 to 26 AWG. Integrated T568A and T568B wiring label.
  • UL Listed.

Where It Fits

It suits structured cabling installers terminating shielded Cat6A drops at the wall plate and the patch panel on a 10G build, data center and server room techs landing Cat6A to a rack panel for 10GBASE-T to the top of rack, Wi-Fi 6E and 7 access point installs where the uplink is 2.5G, 5G, or 10G and the cable is shielded Cat6A, industrial, hospital, and broadcast networks that spec shielded cabling throughout, PoE++ camera, display, and lighting installs that want 100 W through a shielded jack, anyone who has run Cat6A through a plastic Cat6 jack and watched the 10G link negotiate down, and a job that already has the shielded Cat6A bulk cable from the bulk copper collection and the WP2-series wall plates and keystone patch panels it snaps into. For Cat6 shielded runs, the KEY6-SHD jack and COU6-SHD coupler; for unshielded Cat6A, the MIG6A-COUU coupler is the matching UTP part.

Good to Know

A shield only works when it's bonded: the die-cast housing carries the cable's foil or braid through to the plug, and the channel has to be grounded at one end, usually through a bonded shielded patch panel, so make sure the panel end is grounded and the drain wire or foil is captured by the housing when you terminate. Strip the jacket far enough to fold the shield back where the housing clamps it, keep the pair untwist to the minimum the pair-keeper allows, since untwist is what costs a 10G link its margin, and either punch each conductor down with a 110 or Krone blade in one firm stroke, cut side out, or seat the conductors in the IDC cap and press it home by hand; match the color to the A or B label and use one standard across the building. The 23 to 26 AWG range covers Cat6A solid and most patch stranded; check your cable's gauge, because 22 AWG Cat6A exists and won't seat. The 100 W PoE++ rating is the jack's; the channel still needs cable and a panel rated for it, and 4PPoE at 100 W in a bundle wants cable sized for the heat. Component rated means the jack alone meets Cat6A; the channel still has to be tested with the cable and the cords. The 180 degree entry wants depth behind the plate equal to the jack plus the cable's bend radius, which is more than a 90 degree jack needs in a shallow box. Keep it indoors; it's not a weatherproof part.
