This is a Cat6 RJ45 plug with a wire-alignment insert, for solid or stranded 23 to 26 AWG cable with a jacket under 6.5 mm, and it's one of our top-selling connectors. It's an 8P8C modular plug with a clear polycarbonate housing and copper alloy contact blades plated with 50 µin of gold, sized for conductors insulated to 0.96 to 1.02 mm, which covers most Cat6 patch and bulk cable. The insert takes the eight conductors in order before they go into the plug, so they arrive at the contacts straight and in sequence instead of crossing in the channels, and the clear housing lets the order be checked once more before the tool closes. It's rated for 1,200 mating cycles and −40 to 70 °C, and it comes in packs of 25, 50, and 100 for making Cat6 patch cords to length. For shielded cable, the PLG-R45-CT6AS and PLG-R45-CT6AI; for slim 28 to 30 AWG cable, the PLG-R45-CT6SL.

Good to Know

Measure the cable before ordering: this plug is for 23 to 26 AWG conductors insulated to 0.96 to 1.02 mm and a jacket under 6.5 mm, which is most Cat6, but some thick-insulated 23 AWG cable runs over 1.05 mm and won't seat, and 28 AWG slim cable is too thin for it. Strip the jacket, untwist the pairs only as far as the insert needs, put the conductors through the insert in T568B order, trim them flush, and then slide the insert into the plug and crimp; the insert is the part that keeps the order from drifting as the plug goes on, so check the order through the clear housing before the tool closes, since the crimp can't be undone. Use a crimp tool with a standard RJ45 die. The boot goes on the cable before the plug, not after. The housing has no shield shell, so this is for unshielded cable; shielded cable needs a shielded plug so the drain wire has somewhere to go. Keep the bend radius generous at the plug, and keep an eye on how much pair untwist you leave at the contacts, since untwisted pairs at the plug are where a Cat6 link fails its NEXT test.
