The Jonard Tools TETP-901 is the tone and probe kit for a tech who works coax, network, and telephone cable in the same day. The TET-700BC tester and toner puts one of two musical tones on a cable through an RJ45 jack, a BNC jack, or its angled bed-of-nails clips, which bite onto a 66 block without slipping, and the TET-6 accessory kit adds BNC-to-F adapters, BNC, F, and RJ45 jumpers, and a 50 Ω terminator so the same unit reaches a CATV drop or a camera run. A remote terminator lets you test an RJ45 cable end to end without a second tester, and the toner supplies talk power to a telephone so a line can be checked and its polarity read. The TEP-200 probe finds the tone from up to 0.62 miles away with a plastic tip that won't short the contacts, an LED that shows signal strength so you can watch as well as listen, a volume knob and a headphone jack for a loud closet, and a polarity check of its own for 6P2C and 4P2C telephone jacks. Both units work with other makers' analog toners and probes, and the two 9 V batteries are in the box.

Good to Know

The F-connector side comes through the TET-6 adapters: the toner's own jacks are RJ45 and BNC, and the BNC-to-F adapters and the F jumper are what put tone on a CATV or satellite drop, so keep the accessory kit with the toner. The 50 Ω terminator is for toning and testing a coax run cleanly at the far end; it isn't a 75 Ω CATV terminator. The remote terminator checks that an RJ45 cable is connected end to end; it's a continuity check, not a wiring map or a certification, so a Cat6 run that passes here can still have a split pair, and a wiring-map tester or a certifier is the tool for that. Put tone on at the far end, probe at the near end, start with the volume down, and read the LED as well as the tone; the strongest signal is the cable you want, and its neighbours carry a fainter copy, so when two sound alike, separate them and probe again. Two tones let two techs, or two runs, work in the same bundle without confusion. Talk power is enough to run a telephone or a butt set for a line test; it isn't a ringing supply. On an unknown pair, check for anything beyond telephone voltage before you clip on, and remember the kit doesn't detect AC, which is the VT-1100 pen's job. The bed-of-nails clips pierce insulation to grab a conductor, so use them on block terminals and test leads, not on a jacketed cable you want to keep intact. Both units run on 9 V batteries, included; a probe that reads nothing on a known-toned cable usually means the battery.
