CAT7 CMR Riser Cable 1000ft - S/FTP Dual-Shielded, 23AWG Solid Copper 10G

This is the cable to pull when you want the most shielding and the most headroom copper can give a 10G run. Cat7 is the ISO Class F specification, rated to 1000 MHz, twice Cat6A, and it's always built S/FTP: each of the four pairs wrapped in its own aluminum-mylar foil, with a tinned copper braid around all four. The per-pair foil takes crosstalk between the cable's own pairs almost out of the picture; the braid handles the low-frequency fields from power distribution and heavy machinery and gives the shield a low-resistance path to ground. In a hospital riser, a broadcast plant, or a factory control room, that's the difference between a 10G link that passes certification and one that doesn't.

The 23 AWG solid copper conductors have HDPE insulation, and the flame-retardant PVC jacket is CMR riser rated. It comes on a 1000 ft wooden spool with footage markings on the jacket.

Where It Fits

It suits 10G risers and backbones in hospitals and imaging centers, broadcast and post-production facilities, manufacturing plants with drives, welders, and large motors, research labs with sensitive instruments, data center rows with dense trays, and any permanent link where the spec calls for Class F or the noise floor has beaten a foil-only Cat6A.

Good to Know

Cat7 is an ISO standard, not a TIA one, and it was written around its own connectors (GG45 and TERA). Terminated on standard RJ45 jacks and patch panels, which is how nearly everyone installs it, the channel certifies as Cat6A: 10G over 100 m, with the S/FTP shielding as the reason to choose it. So buy this cable for the shielding and the margin, not for speeds beyond 10G on RJ45. A shield only works when it's grounded: terminate on shielded Cat6A or Cat7 jacks that bond to the braid, ground it at one end, normally the patch panel, and use shielded patch cords and switch ports so the shield is continuous end to end. Terminating S/FTP takes longer than F/UTP, since each pair's foil has to be stripped back and the braid folded and clamped, so allow for it in the labor estimate. CMR covers risers and general indoor spaces but not plenum air-handling ceilings. Plan for a bend radius of about four times the cable diameter. For moderate interference, the foil-only shielded Cat6A riser does the job for less and terminates faster. Solid conductors are for permanent runs; terminate on jacks and patch panels, not crimped plugs.
