LGX Blanking Plate, Black Steel, 130 × 30 mm (FAP-BLANK)

This is a blank LGX plate for the slots in a fiber patch panel that don't have an adapter panel in them yet. It's a 1.6 mm cold-rolled steel plate with a black powder coat, 130 by 30 mm, which is the single-width LGX footprint, and it snaps into the slot without tools and comes out the same way when the slot is needed. It closes the opening so dust and debris stay out of the enclosure and off the splice trays and the pigtails behind the other plates, and it keeps the front of the rack looking finished. It fits the RMFP rack-mount panels and the WMFP wall-mount enclosures with LGX cutouts, and any other LGX panel. It's sold individually. For the loaded plates that replace it as the panel fills, the FAP-SM-LCU-6DF, FAP-SM-LCU-6Q, FAP-SM-SC-6D, FAP-MM-LC-6DF, FAP-MM-LCG-6DF, FAP-MM-SCG-3D, and FAP-MM-ST-6S; for the enclosures, the RMFP-001, RMFP-015, RMFP-016, and RMFP-018.

Where It Fits

It suits a splice-and-patch panel that's been bought for the fiber count the building will have, not the count it has today, so a 2U with six slots and two loaded plates has four blanks until the next cables are pulled. It suits a wall-mount enclosure in a dusty closet or a plant floor, where an open LGX cutout is a hole straight to the splice tray. Installers who finish a rack properly use it, and so do techs who pull a damaged adapter plate and need to close the slot until the replacement arrives. A panel bought with a mix of plate widths that leaves a single-width gap is a candidate. It goes with the LGX adapter panels and the RMFP and WMFP enclosures from the fiber panel collection. Count the slots before you order: every LGX slot that won't have a loaded plate the day the panel goes in should have a blank, so a six-slot 2U with two cables needs four, and it's cheaper to buy them with the panel than to leave the slots open and order later. The plate is the single-width size, 130 by 30 mm, which is the common LGX cutout; a double-width slot takes two blanks side by side, or one blank beside a loaded plate. It snaps in the same way the loaded plates do, so if a loaded plate fits the panel, the blank does too; if the panel uses screws for its plates rather than clips, check the fit before buying a set. Keep the blanks you pull as the panel fills, since a reconfigured rack a year from now will want them back. The powder coat is what keeps the steel from marking the rack and from rusting in a damp closet, so don't drill or file it. A blank is a dust cover, not a lock: it keeps debris out of an unused slot, but the dust caps on the loaded plates' adapters are still what protect the pigtails behind them.
