Set the impact before the first stroke: high for 66 blocks, low for keystone jacks and Cat6 panels, and if a jack's contact bends or its housing cracks you had it on high. The blade has four ends worth knowing: 66 or 110 by which end is fitted, and cut or non-cut by which way round. Use the cutting edge for a termination where the conductor ends at the block, with the cutting side facing the waste end of the wire, and the non-cutting edge when the conductor continues past the contact to the next one, as on a cross-connect or a daisy chain, where cutting it would open the circuit. Hold the tool square to the block and press straight in until the mechanism fires; a tilted stroke seats one side of the contact and leaves the other proud. Keep the pair untwist short, 1/2 in at most for Cat5e and Cat6, and dress the pairs into the slots before you punch. A blade that starts leaving uncut tails or needs a second press is dull; flip it to the fresh end, and when both are gone the spare is in the handle. For a keystone jack in your hand rather than in a plate, the TLP-003 palm puck holds it still and keeps the blade off your palm.
