Some tap ports are a reach: behind a strand clamp, at the back of a pedestal, up in a lock box with the lid half open. The Jonard Tools TTCG-6270-9 is the 9 in locking terminator tool for Corning Gilbert cam-style terminators, with the length to get a cam tip onto a port that a shorter tool can't touch. The tip engages the Gilbert NS-5762-3, NS-5762-9, NS-5762-11, NS-5762-13, and NS-5762-15 terminators and other similar types, so a port can be terminated or opened for a connect in one turn. The tool is anodized aluminum for long life and a bit over a third of a pound, and the tip is 1/4 in (6.35 mm) across. Good to Know

Locking terminators are access control for the operator's plant, and the tool is for technicians authorized to open and secure those ports; carry it on the strength of the work order. Match the terminator before you reach for the tool: the NS-5762 series is the cam style this tool fits, and a terminator from another maker or a different Gilbert series may look similar and not engage, in which case forcing the cam rounds the lock and leaves a port that can't be opened by anyone. Seat the tip fully on the terminator, turn to lock or unlock, and lift straight off; with nine inches of tool the leverage is greater and so is the temptation to force a stuck one, and the tool turns the terminator but isn't a wrench for the port itself. Keep the tool in line with the port as you turn, since an angled tip on a long tool cams off the terminator and marks it. Put the terminator back on every port you open and don't leave terminated, since an open tap port is both a leak and an invitation. Anodized aluminum is light and won't rust, but it's softer than a steel terminator, so the tip wears before the terminator does; a tool that starts to slip on a known-good terminator is due for replacement. Tap ports on a powered plant can be live; check before working at the tap.
