6-Strand LC/UPC Single-Mode Fiber Pigtail, Removable Jacket, 3 Meter (PGTLC6-SM)

This is a 6-fiber single-mode LC/UPC pigtail, 3 meters long, with a removable yellow outer jacket. Each of the 6 OS2 fibers is a 900 µm tight-buffered strand with a factory-tested LC/UPC connector on one end and bare fiber on the other for fusion or mechanical splicing. The jacket protects the bundle on the way from the box to the tray and can be stripped back as far as you need, so the strands fan out loose where the space is tight and stay bundled where it isn't. The LC end plugs straight into an adapter panel, so a 6-fiber cable spliced to this pigtail becomes 6 LC ports in one tray. It's sold individually, as one 6-strand pigtail. For a 12-fiber cable, the jacketed PGTLC12-SM; for the same 6-fiber pigtail in SC, the PGTSC6-SM; for the enclosure, the RMFP rack-mount panels and the WMFP wall-mount boxes.

Where It Fits

It suits a small single-mode entry, such as a 6-fiber drop into a building or a tenant space, where the whole cable terminates in one small wall box and the switch ports are LC. It suits fiber distribution units and optical distribution frames where a 6-fiber tray is enough, and splice trays in a wall-mount box. Crews splicing a 6-fiber cable out to LC ports use it, and so do installers who'd rather not waste half of a 12-fiber pigtail on a 6-fiber cable. A security camera backbone, a building-to-building link, or a small office running LC optics is a candidate. It goes with the single-mode bulk fiber, the LC adapters, the splice trays and sleeves, and the fusion splicer from the fiber collections. For a 12-fiber cable, the jacketed PGTLC12-SM. Good to Know

UPC is the flat-polish connector, usually blue, and it mates with UPC adapters and UPC cords; don't put it against an APC adapter or an APC cord, since the angled face meets the flat one with an air gap and the loss goes up. Count the fibers in the incoming cable before you order: a 6-fiber pigtail on a 12-fiber cable leaves six fibers dark, and two of these pigtails on one 12-fiber cable means two color sequences to keep straight in the tray, so for a 12-fiber cable the 12-fiber pigtail is simpler. Decide how much jacket to remove before you cut: the jacket is the strength member and the snag guard, so leave it on for the length of the route between the adapter plate and the tray and strip it only where the strands have to fan out and bend, which is usually the last foot or so at the tray. A 3 meter pigtail leaves room for that route in a deep enclosure; coil the excess in the slack ring rather than cutting it short. Strip the 900 µm buffer and the coating back to bare fiber, cleave, splice to the incoming cable, and seat the sleeve in the tray. Dress the bundle and tie it loosely to the tray so the connectors aren't carrying the fibers' weight, and keep the bend radius generous even where the strands are bare. Splice in the standard color sequence, blue through white for fibers 1 through 6, and match it to the incoming cable's buffer tubes so the as-built is honest. Clean and inspect every LC connector before it goes into an adapter, and keep the dust caps on until then; an LC ferrule is small and a speck of dust covers a lot of it.
